How much of a crowd does a trance night pulls in, besides the top 10 djs

I was reading JOOF forum where John ask about the state of trance
http://www.john00fleming.co.uk/foru...opic.php?t=3884

where a user 'ADE' posted

quote:
This is prooved by the fact the only DJ's that pull crowds are the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Ferry, Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk. no one else will sell out a venue in the UK, and how long have these guys been around, for like forever. Full credit to those guys for doing so well, but it just prooves the scene is going nowhere. No One else is really breaking through.

People say smaller clubs are the way forward, how many people have tried this now over the past 3 years, the events have come and they have gone within a few months. There's only room for the big players, and even Gatecrasher can't come up with anything original anymore, event event is a 'classic' night.

What I would like to know how much a crowd can trance club pull in your city besides the top 10 djs?

Where are your from? How many clubs that play trance in your city? Of these, which clubs are exclusive trance clubs, and which does host random trance nights. Does it pull enough people besides the top10 djs?

Personally, I thought clubs in UK/Europe would be pulling a lot of crowd, atleast a single trance club in a big city should do well, but it seems the big clubs aren't faring that well. Then there was the small club concept, even many of these have folded up.

Every club I've gone to around here (Helsinki, Finland) within the past 2 years has always been full (sometimes even so full you can barely move on the dancefloor) no matter who's been playing...

Then again Finland is such a small country and we don't get too much events around here anyway so...

trance nights in london generally get packed out regardless of who's playing. We got The Gallery (turnmills), trance generation (Soundshaft), and knowwhere (the fridge).

Every event usually gets quite packed

Me and a mate started up our own night a few months back. We have it on a monthly basis. The people know what type of music they're getting and it seems to be building. It's only a small venue and we don't intend on booking any big DJ's or anything. We're just out to give people a different choice of music.

It doesn't get packed out or anything but it makes enough money for the manager to let us keep doing it. And we've already got the next few months booked in.

A lot of the folk around our way like Funky House. We're trying to change that though!

The trance crowd in my area consists of about 40 people. When PvD or Tiesto comes around the clubs will fill out but DJ's who aren't known internationaly and play trance can barely fill up a house party over here. The most succesful non internation DJ's around play Drum and Bass, Electro, Ragga, that kind of grimey hard sound.

The biggest city in the state most parties are breakbeats or DnB, trance is extremely rare although there used to be one resident trance DJ in Charlotte, but the club he worked in closed and is in the process of re-opening under a new name and new management. It really makes me wish I lived in a bigger city, especially now that the costs for traveling have spiked upwards.

hm I'm from Poland where trance stage is still very young but I took part in a few trance events this summer and I have to say that it was really overcrouded. For egzample the boggest party - Sunrise Festival - is bigger and bigger. More and more people wants to party, and i think that the Dj isn't the one who makes them feel like this - it's the music.!!!
trance rulezz!!!

I'd say it's about 600-800 for a regular no big name dj night for Turkey(Istanbul)

well here in NYC, there are several trance clubs. and i think they do an exceptionally well job attracting a huge crowd on nights that arent on the top 10, even top 20. personally i like those nights much better cause its not overcrowded and im not being surrounded getting push and shoved by sweaty guys, there is some room but it still is crowded to a point where u can really enjoy yourself and dance freely.

jacksonville fl.
only 1 club i know of here plays trance exclusively.
and its part of a mega club.
theres also the country room, top 40, 80's.
but theres several that play it on selected nights.

When there are no major DJ's on, our monthly trancenight can pull up to 500 people. Even when there are big name acts it is lucky to get 1000+ people here.

However two tribes earlier in the year saw 10,000+ people attend but there were some of the biggest names in electronic music there.
