Tiesto + Sander Klienenberg @ MVP Dubai Sept 15 (REVIEW)
First off before you Tiesto fans pounce on me for giving him an average review let me see that I am the biggest damn TIESTO fan - not in the world but I guess in this country.
I've got his albums and dvds and misc other stuff. Been following him for a long time now so I guess I expected more from him than other people at the show. After all he is the #1 DJ in the world so he should be doing more to promote trance in this region.
Anyways I took off work early to catch the press conference at Virgin MEgastore and try to get him to autograph by ISOS4 album or even Tiesto DVD - Another Day at the Office. We all waited for approx 45 mins but no luck. There were around 30-40 people waiting and he only signed 4-5 autographs. I managed to catch him leave the store and asked him to sign my Tiesto tshirt (made it myself hehe) but well he was ushered out by his manager
Now to the show. I heard over 7000 tickets had been sold so it was our fault for getting there late. Show was from 9-3 with a dj contest winner spinning, then Sander and then Tiesto.
WE got there while Sander was on around 11:15 and he was really f.cking good. The crowd was hot and ready for Tiesto when he came.
So what happened? Tiesto came on to his usual big intro and started spinning. He spun a few famous tunes like Just Be, Lethal Industry, the La Noche from his ISOS 4 cd and Like a Waterfall. I'm positive he did not spin Love Comes Again, Flight 643, Traffic which really pissed me off. He needs to be promoting Trance here and his music - but thats my opinion.
He ended the set with 2 tracks from his Cream Amnesia 2005 set in Ibiza:
Tiesto - 'Lethal Industry (TIC Edit)' (Universal)
Bart Claessen - 'Playmo' (Yakuza!
I'm really favoring Playmo these days so that was the highlight of the night for me heheeh
So overall it was an OK show for me. I guess I expected something much more since Im a huge fan. Other regular trance folks here like it alot. Its true Tiesto really gets the crowd going even though his sets may not be that spectacular.
PVD was better in March this year but I'm going to wait and try to make it to Tiesto show abroad soon. Cuz I hrd they play the best sets in Europe
CD
Thanks for the review.
It looks like I will be in Dubai in October. How do I find out about good shows/DJs playing there? Any good websites?
The best thing about Dubai parties is the publicity. They advertise every 30 mins on the radio stations so keep tuned.
Also subscribe to timeoutdubai.com and you will be well informed.
OCt is Ramadan time so very very very few parties since UAE is a Muslim country.
Usually they have a huge event before Ramadan. LAst yr Oakie was in town while this year it was Sander + Tiesto

Very true... in the UAE everyone wants to be like someone and do what everyone is doing. If one person says they are going for Tiesto, all their friends follow even if they dont know who Tiesto is.
We fans have been following his music and history for a while so the show was a big disappointment to us.
Atleast I could hear the music at Tiesto. PVD was better from a distance - up front it was pure butality for my ears because I think they had the bass dial turned up max!!!!
I got ditched for Ferry so unfortunately couldn't make it.. Same for PEte Tong last yr who i hrd was outstanding...
I hope they bring in AVB soon - his state of trance sets have been gettin better and better.
Guys....sorry but let's be clear here tiesto won't mix in Dubai as the EDM scene is a failure....from my experience people go to show off & party with high heels,,,,and as u all know a DJ is nothing without a crowd + keping in minds that Tiesto is commercial "wanna make money DJ" that's doesn't care if the crowd is satisfied or not.
anyway i am seeing tiesto on oct1st in beirut & i bet it will rock as in Lebanon the energy & the crowd are a F*&*Kin A.
holy crap. Just opening this thread opens a huge flood of memories.
I used to live in sharjah three years ago.
IN THE MIX, MINISTRY OF SOUND AND GATECRASHER PARTIES ALWAYS ROCKED!
first time, I ever saw Jelo was at Atlantis.
damn.
