total removal of postcount ?

Having been here a long time now, there's one thing that still bugs me at times, and that's post counts. there seems to be too many people using padding threads just to get custom status. imo we should remove all postcounting so that nobody can use the "well i have more posts than you" argument, and allow custom status after say 6 months of registering regardless of if the person has 470 shit posts & 30 good ones, or just 100 well thought out ones, why should one person lose out over another ?

thoughts ?

The postcount hierarchy is utterly pointless. Here's why:

1. Postwhoring. New users make as many posts as possible just to get custom status. Fewer posts that are well thought out should be encouraged instead.

2. It encourages cliquiness. New users are effectively not allowed to have an opinion or even taken seriously at all until they've 'proven themselves' with a custom status. This does nothing but ostricise potential new fans.

3. Custom status brings nothing more than a false sense of self-esteem for insecure people whos confidence rises on a 5 point scale along with TA's postcount hierarchy.

4. The fact that posts in the COR don't count makes not one whit of difference to any of the above points. It does however have the effect that postwhoring remains firmly in other forums asides the COR.

There is no point to custom status whatsoever. It serves as nothing but an electronic penis extension (and a malfunctioning one at that).

i like the idea. but that would mean all my hard-earned post-whoring would be in vain.

not really, i mean you've been here long enough to qualify for custom status (under the plans I have anyway) just think it might as est suggests remove some of the attitude, and of course stop the shit like 'what are u listening to' or 'get c ustom status quicker by spamming this thread' stuff

i don't get it, it really seems pointless to get rid of PC cause you want to get rid of an arguement. I guess I didn't think anyone took a person seriously when they said "I ahve more posts than you so I am right"

The postcount hierarchy is not just pointless - it actually has negative consequence. It creates an attitude problem that ostricises new users so as they are either forced make infinte usless posts outside the cor (e.g. 'what im listening to thread), or they just get put off by the attitude and leave.

Right - it's basically a means for the lazy custom status user to end a debate with a newer user. Aboloshing the PC hierarchy will not only end the postwhoring, but also encourage more thoughtful discussion without this kind of an easy escape.

hehe, well if it was a bad problem that happened to all the new users we would have none. yet there are still new people all the time. Plus if PC is gone, I can see those same types of people saying, "I joined before you, you suck".

I think instead, if you are concerned, we go forth with methods to inform and educate new member at what PC actually means. That when someone says to them their opinion is wrong because "I have posted more on this board", you can laugh and laugh knowing that person has no life and no logic.

and end postwhoring..lol. There is no way.

just my two cents. and please, you don't even have 1000 posts :P. I have over 14000. heeh

Just an example: if someone new enters the forum and has a question he/she doesn't want to ask in a thread he/she can pm someone with a lot of posts because that person might have the answer

you have to be registered on the forums for 6 months before you can get custom status regardless of how many posts you make in that 6 months.
Once you have been here 6 months then you need over 500 posts to get custom status.

and tbh i've not seen anyone brag about thier post count in a long time, until this thread funnily enough.

yes boomer, i know exactly what it means, that you made a couple of thousand posts in the post padding threads of old before they got closed.

Neo, read mainly est's points, tho i'll explain to u in irc at somepoint

Anyhow... no need to hide the postcount because there is just no reason too. Every board on the internet shows the number of posts their users made so why should TA be different?

The hierarchy (junior tranceaddict e.t.c.) makes an issue out of the postcounts. The actual postcount itself is equally pointless but doesnt encourage people to be pretentious so not as bad imo.
