Technics SHMZ1200 Vz Allen & Heath Xone 32

Soon will be buyin a new mixer, stuck between the Technics SHMZ1200 mixer;


Or Allen n Heaths Xone 32;


Currently only a pair of 1210s and a 2 channel mixer, but will definetly be gettin at least one CD deck when i can afford, so will need at least 3 channels.

Now the Xone 32 has inbuilt filter but only 3 channels, plus I think the gains are on the back of the mixer which is a bit weird?
The SHMZ1200 has 4 channels but no effects, yet does have send and return option so could later add an effects unit if i wanted.

Anyone ever used either mixer, and if so can u let me know what u like n dislike about them???

A year ago I was very interested in buying the SHMZ1200, but the fact that there was almost no review of it or even people who owned it, didn't help. It's supposedly to be an OK mixer.
Later on I stumbled on an offer for the xone:32 which I couldn't refuse.
And there is more than enough info on allen & heath mixers to be found, so I bought it and never looked back. Really nice mixer, good sound, well built. I have no complaints. You can do some nice stuff with the filters, but I use those only once in a while. I had two 1200's hooked on it, but now it's two CDJ's and one 1200. But if necessary I can hook up the other TT too. Three channels is more than enough for home use, because you can just switch between line and phono on the back (as with almost every mixer) if you're not too lazy . As for the gains on the back, they are weird.....the first ten minutes. You'll get used to them very quickly and not something to NOT buy this mixer for.
Better would be to just go out and play with them at your local dealer if possible.
What's your budget? �500? If you really want more channels, you might want to look into a second hand xone:62 or save up even more and buy a new one .

I played on a xone 62 on radio last week for the first time... n fuck, what a mixer...

Built liek a tank n sooo damn smooth... the 32 would be identical, cept less channels so i cant see any mixer in that price range beating it for sound quality n stoof.... go the xone 100%

man you cant go wrong with the xone

i own one and its simply perfect

the gains is weird at the beginning but you get use to it

3 channel=more than enough....i dont think you will ever have to put 4 sources at the same time

thanks for all comments, think im gonna get a Tascam X9 mixer now tho, for �500 on sale, 4 channels, near enuff same as djm600, loads of effects, bargain for price me thinks

I've played on it once and I didnt really like it.
For granted - this mixer has shitloads of features, most of them will probably take some time getting used to. But now for the reason I didnt like the mixer: Its 100% digital. you might say its a no big deal, but I found that the mixer had a slight lag. I tried to kill the bass on the eqs right before the beginning of a new phrase and then taking it back right when the first kickdrum lands, having already done that countless times on analog mixers I was fairly confident when to turn the eq knob back to neutral.. but guess what 3 times out of 3 the bass came back a few hundred milliseconds later, causing the first kickdrum not to be heard.

Of course you might adapt to this little lag by learning to turn the knobs a little before you want them to act, but then you would be totally confused when you are given a analog mixer (such as A&H for example).

Maybe I was playing on a faulty model, and given the fact that I didnt have time to conduct some further testing, I might be totally wrong judging this mixer, but then again a&h has been tried and tested.. you really cant go wrong with one!
