i have to phone and talk to tantra about the katrina party, armin van buuren, and this event so i will try and get as much info as possible,

if you guys could get me some questions you have i can ask while i am making my calls for the day!.

100$ to open ne ways this could be great or brutal! I hope the people doing the dj selection have some idea of what music armin plays and pick a dj to accomodate that... other than that is that flyer correct?? whos donald claude?

i've sent an email already, hopefully they choose someone who will do the job proper

Ask how they decide who is the winner - presumably everyone needs to submit a mix?

If you saw the club on spike they had oakenfold there to listen to all the sets live and then decide with other Resident and guest DJS. That would be a good idea. I will ask about the judging style.

I will try and phone later on today i tried during my breaks and lunch but no answer.

in my opinion the opening should compliment avb, but not play his style of music...therefore play some prog trance, warm up...or even prog house...warm up the place...but that's up to the promoters...

This event and the AvB show is actually organized and promoted by the venue (Tantra) and not an actual promoter. DJ's will play live and I'm assuming it will be crowd reaction that will determine the winner. Please expect it to be quite subjective. In my opinion, this show is doomed as Tantra is way too small to hold Armin and although a DJ Comp is nice in theory, the consequences could be laughable.

On OCT. 7th and 8th, 6 Dj's a night will battle for the opportunity to open for Armin Van Buuren, who will be playing at Tantra on Oct. 16th. Sets will be 30 mins each. The top two of each night will face off on sunday. The winner of sunday will open for AVB and get 6 tickets for his/her friends and he/she will get a $100 bar tab.

Alright i got messages on Robs, Lisas, and Kavs voicemails, just waiting for call backs from them.

I will be answering calls all night so hopefully they get me before the nights end. if not tomorrow via voice mail.

Feel free to call and leave messages as well, as more input towards events like these will help develope and transform the events and let venues know what everyone is looking for

and yes it is going to be sickly packed for armin van buuren, if you made it to benny bennassi at tequila, or deep dish at tantra, you will get an idea of how packed,

Are you making the trip east? They select 12 DJs to spin live on October 7th and 8th in Calgary..then the finals are on the 9th followed by the actual show on the 16th.

you WILL be judged as to how many guests you bring, 1 point per guest.

As for the actual DJing of your set, he is still trying to figure that out, they may have guest djs, but they are mostly wanting to bring out a crowd rather than judge true ability

get alot of friends, rile up the crowd, and make the place loud,

that will be the basis on the judging, for now.

a tape is not needed, just contact KAV or ROB to get your name on the list for being there to DJ, right now there are 12 DJS.

Personally speaking Tony, I think you would be a great candidate to open for this show!!

I will be there for both dates i hope, armin most definatley would love to hear ALL your sets!!

its an early slot so who really cares if the dj ends up sucking
no one will be there to hear it
but yeah that judging process is fuct

i still have not heard back from rob, the +1 point for guests thing sucks bigtime but they still havnt discussed how they are going to really judge the performance wise.

if its crowd based then you better be really damn good to get the crowd (if there is any) shoutin your name if the DJ before you has alot of friends there just going nuts.

keep in mind it will start at about 9:30 or so. so everyone will be pretty much lazy for the first little bit, the later your set the better.

wow what an intresting idea, now all those times i wish i was at home DJin are really biting me in the ass right now !! damnit, good luck to all of you, and i will plan to make it out to some of these events to check out some of the calgary djs we got !!!!! sounds like fun !!

also keep in mind that cary chang is supposed to be on the bill too
