Job Question

if you knew you were going to get fired, would you...

quit, dont give them the satisfaction of firing you

let them fire you, but dont do anything at work until you get fired

do a really good job and hope you dont get fired

or, come up with any other answers you want.

depends on what the severance package is and if I still planned on being in the local industry

database operations, but they want me to start training the other employees on how to use the new system that management decided we needed. ive done a little bit with it and its not all that great. ive been working part time over the summer because there hasnt been a lot to do and id rather have the days off over the summer, but ill be full time from now.

if you work for a while full time getting fired isnt that bad because you get unemployment and a severance package usually. Also training people to do what you do is a pretty good sign they are getting ready to let you go hehe. But thats cool the raise was offered...Id talk responsibilities and duties that go along with the raise if I were you and start talking like youre being promoted...basically what direction do we need to move in, what else needs to be done, etc...

what are you using? i'm in a similar position, I work for a fortune 500 company on the business side of sales operations using Oracle 11i/9i Discoverer Reporting Tool. So essentially I'm dev'ling up business reports and doing analysis based on sales through fiscal years. The whole training thing is a fluke man, I've trained so many people and they are all still dumb to the head about it. Nothing you can do when technology leads a sales force full of blood hungry money grabbing quota making reps who don't want to do anything that will mess up their business.

see you don't see the beauty of my plan. if i start gambling more then i get free drinks at the casino

Posted by DjConfessions on Sep-20-2005 20:02:

walk around town with a big sign that says "I FORGOT THE DECIMAL POINT.....FIRED!!!" make sure there is a HUGE FUCKING arrow pointing at ur face

Posted by Orbax on Sep-20-2005 20:03:

you need to get demotivated to the point where youd rather walk 4 seconds to the chevron and buy a 12 of pabst for 5 bucks than drive allllll the way out to the casino just for a few drinks :P

Posted by Aiwendil on Sep-20-2005 20:05:

Where I live they give you a free round trip to the casino and a free meal with 10 bucks spending money...free. I guess they figure most people are suckers. Not me though. I'm a blower.

Posted by Googooly on Sep-20-2005 20:07:

give a blowjob to your boss and your there for another month.

we're using a third party vendor called NetRieve. i know how you feel about training people. i made a thread last week about dumb bosses, you should check it out for a good laugh.

Depends on all the variables in play. How long have you been there? (Can you collect unemployment?) Do you really hate everything about the job and have zero desire to stay there? Do you see a future at the company? If you hate your job, like I did mine, you do the least amount possible, or you quit (as I did). I couldn't take it anymore and had to leave, but I don't know exactly how you feel about it.
