College Pro Painters

So these ppl came to my school and had me sign this thing...

and all of a sudden i'm considering working for them!

ne one heard of em? know someone who's been involved?

i've ran a franchise of student works painting for the past two years now. not exactly college pro, there are some differences between the two. but, i can tell you anything you'd like to know about the two company's. i've been actively involved in recruiting for student works as well so i know all of the major differences between the two. send me a pm if you want to chat.

ya my freind's a manager there,,first year he was just a simple painter but now he's a manager, i don't exactly know how it works though but he gets his own area , does estimats and book them ,then start painting.
for a simple worker ,i think they get paid average 8-10 per hour

It's a good opportunity to make a buck and get some managerial experience.

Piramid scam.

Guys at the top make a lot, guys on the bottom usually end up being screwed and work thier tails off for the guys at the top.

I've had a lot of friends work thier first summer in university as painters and about 5% of them looked back on as worth while. 20% of them never wanted to hear of the company again. and there were a bunch in the middle, two of which continued on to run their own crews the following years. (one did VERY well! making over $14 grand her first summer and about 20 grand her second summer). So you definately can make some good money in the program if you work hard for it. They definately have thier sales pitch down cold and make it sound like nothing but awesomeness. The main concern I heard from my friends working as painters was that it was them getting screwed for any mishap all summer and not really much skin (or wages) comparatively off the back of the managers.
I took a management postition with them for a few weeks before my conscious caught up with me about 4 years ago. I don't know if they have changed thier ways but I doubt it given how profitable it was for them.
If you'll be managing your own crew, fine at least that way you're in charge of how much you can work and earn but don't sign up to be a painter unless you know the guy (or gal) you're working for knows their stuff and is ambitious (ideally someone who managed a crew before and had a succesful summer).
Most of the peeps doing the recruiting are the top people from previous years who will speak very highly of the program.
If you want to start your own painting company I would suggest going through the Ontario Summer Company program where they give you up to $3,000 start up for your summer business with no need to EVER pay it back. That way you can still work on your own terms and keep every dollar you make. With $3,000 you can have a very good summer start up and the program is there to help you out and guide you through it. There is a reason the Government will not approve you for Summer Company if you mention you want to run a College Pro type of business, they don't approve. (go ahead bring it up in an interview with your local small business enterprise center rep! lol and see the look on their face).
Again good things can come of working in these programs no I'm not completely bashing them but if you're doing it to be 'entreprenueral' and use it to gain management type experience, why not do it all on your own terms and have a even more rewarding summer.

it's not as easy as it sounds to get money from the gov't......trust me.

yeh, saying that sounds just as bad as the ppl that claim they make $20g's in a summer...sure its possible, but its not like it just 'magically' happens.

i worked for action windows for about 6-7weeks one sumemr just as a washer, and was only making like $9/h, but didn't have to do coldcalling or any of that shit, i actually left right b4 they made us start doing that. the manager was making $12 i think that we had. personally i make a lot more then my manager now, and couldn't be bothered having to do that crap anymroe. if you're desperate for money, then by all means, but if u can do better, then go for it.

My good friends who just got married met when they were working for College Pro painters. Was worthwhile for them I guess. Back in the early 90's it was THE university student job of the summer so I have many friends who worked for them. Description of the pyramid is pretty accurate. My friends who made any real sort of cash were managers. Not easy work if you are not used to any sort of manual labour but definitely not as strenuous as construction or contracting work. If you are a painter, don't expect to walk away from the summer with lots of cash.

Actually I found it to be pretty easy. Esspecially if you'll be returning in September to be a full time student.

I'm looking at applying for a manager position

i know its going to be hard work, but i think it'll pay off in the end.

i don't think i'd work as a painter... altho 8$/hr isn't that bad.

yeah 8$ an hour doesn't sound that bad unless you look at how many hours you'll be getting if your manager screws up and doesn't get enough work for you.

it also depends bigtime on the area you are in and the competition that there is for summre grants. the tri-cities area is alot easier to get grants in, as the majority of our managers in that area received grants of up to 7k this summer. however somewhere like niagara or toronto is a whole different story. i tried desperetely applying for every grant available for the last two summers and i was denied in both cases.

as for money you can make.....we had managers this summer make close to 60k.....the bottom bunch of managers will still make at least 5-8k in a summer. our average manager this summer made 16k. these facts are all 100% accurate.

You can get a lot of overnight work at hospitals and offices. The money's good. It's fun, but tedious and hard on the bod (stiff neck/arms). If you pick it up as a trade and start your own business, you can make lots of money at it!
