Forget waxed chests and rock-hard abs. A new survey finds ladies like their men scruffy, a wee bit chubby - and definitely not a metrosexual.

Playgirl asked 2,000 of its readers what they find sexy in a man and the answers were surprising: 42% said they thought love handles were kind of sexy and 47% approved of chest hair.

The mag, which often features toned, hairless males in its beefcake photo spreads, is now searching for a man who meets readers' standards.

Average Joes everywhere can send photos to [email protected] to compete for a shot at a pictorial in a future issue.

Rich playboys need not apply - only 4% of women said the size of a man's wallet mattered. Metrosexuals are also out: 73% want a guy who is "rough around the edges."

"This survey shows that the guy who's most attractive to our readers is not your average Hollywood hunk," said Playgirl editrix Jill Sieracki. "It's the average Joe who came up on top. Women are practical about their choices, and they're smart."

New York matchmaker Janis Spindel, a self-described specialist at setting up "highly successful, well-educated, attractive professionals," confirmed the survey's findings. "It's scary, but women don't care [about looks]," she said. "Men are very superficial and very shallow."

But Spindel disputed the claim that women don't care about finding a rich man: "Women want a man who makes more money than they do," she said. "They want to be able to live a comfortable lifestyle."

OK, that clinched it for me - the rough thing I can understand, but that 4% statistic is laughable...

Based on the above statistic, if this survey shows anything then it's that women (or at least the ones who read that magazine) really don't know what they want.

but we all know if theres an average joe and fabio, the women will pick fabio first until they get bored of him a few minutes later and then take joe...

The bias in that sentence alone made me question the validity of the whole study. Sounds like the survey was written by a woman who's just been dumped by a good-looking guy, rather than an actual survey of women. Yes, I'm sure poor, overweight, middle-aged men are all the rage these days.

Everyone has there own sence of style they look for in the opposite sex... if you like chubby then you will not be liking the skinny people... just the peoples preference... I think the articals just to give people confidence....lol just one big joke

I totally agree, I love my men to have meat on them, and some hair... I have never been attracted to skinny guys OR playbooys.

All of you guys are reading into extremes here.

I think this article doesn't mean the 400 lbs bum that is in the shelter covered in hair.

Attractive guys (according to this) are fairly fit but not beef cakes (a la ginos), they can have hair but not be covered with it (notice how it said 47% approve of chest hair, this doesn't mean bush man). And I think the money issue is confusing but the questions on the survey were probably worded weird. 4% said that they care how much a man makes. Well, I don't really care how much a man makes as long as I can eat and buy some clothes and fun stuff and my kid can eventually go to college. Also metrosexuals are scary because they spend more money on looks than women do. Who wants to compete with that? I don't want to be the one waiting to get ready.

i mean don't get me wrong.. a nice body is great.. but when it comes down to it i try to be realistic... i don't mind guys that are a little chubby or guys that are like super skinny.. i actually kinda like it... love chest hair ( uber sexy.. and guys are supposed to be hairy!) i love shaggy messy hair and i LOVE scruffy facial hair... metros are a definate NO... so i'd have to say i'm in total agreeance with what most women prefer... but i'll tell ya.. i don't mind seeing/touching a nice rock hard stomach now and again....

the money thing is a joke. Women always say that money doesnt matter until they talk about it amongst themselves. Then it becomes more of a competition about how rich and powerful their guy is compared to their friends.

Yes SOME women truely dont care about money but those are more rare these days.

Clearly guys who do that are just talking shit and really do care more about looks than personality if the blonde with big boobs offers nothing of a personality. Prefering personality over looks is something nice to say but some of us really do know what we want and don't make the mistake of chasing something else because it looks better on paper. I respect my guy friends who are honest about the fact that they care only about looks. Definitely respect them more than those who lead you to believe that they are looking for something more and then just chases the blonde with big boobs because if they were honest with you that is all they are looking for. We are all looking for something different...all I am saying is, know what that is and be honest about it.
