Ulrich Schnauss

Could anyone recommend some albums similar to Ulrich Schnauss' "Far away trains passing by", and "A strangely isolated place"?

Thanks

I'm definitely a big fan of Ulrich. Looking forward to the new album. He definitely has a pretty unique sound, hard to think of anyone similar.

try stuff from herrmann & kleine. at least some of their tracks aint too different from schnauss.

they've released an album on called 'our noise', check it out. i really like one of their EP's 'kickboards girl' as well. both are released on morr music, a solid label based in berlin. they probably have more stuff in their discography that you might like.

ofcourse you can always check out other stuff on CCO as well

How could nobody have mentioned M83?

They're darker sure, but as far as style goes there very very similar to Ulrich.

Check out there albums at amazon.

He is re-releasing FATPB this October with a bonus cd with 6 un-officially-released tracks (at least on an Ulrich album). So definately check that out.

As they've said before, there really is no sound exactly similar to Ulrich. He truly is a unique artist.

I'd say the artists that give me the closest feeling to Ulrich's work are as some have said before:

Mogwai - check out the song "I Know You are but What am I?"
Though a fair chunk of their stuff is more post-rock/heavier.

Album Leaf - His "In a Safe Place" album is brilliant. Very similar feelings in his work to Ulrich's. However, his "One Day I'll Be On Time" album is more post-rock based with less electronic elements.

M83 - Considering Ulrich toured with M83, I'd say their style is fairly related. Definately check out their latest album "Before the Dawn..."

I'd say if you're really into looking into more similar songs/artists, check out some more melodic/ambient post-rock artists. That's exactly what Mogwai and the Album Leaf are. I'd love to have time and just search, but it really is a rare genre and its difficult to test artists out without buying CDs since P2P networks are soo consumer based these days. And I'm not a big fan of hit or miss CD shopping...

i'd suggest Arovane, MS John Soda, Manitoba, by the time you have listened to all of those you'll fall in love with IDM so then you'll have to listen to Squarepusher, tho' I don't think he sounds like Schnauss, but oh whatever

Oh and check Autechre :]

I never got into Ulrich's stuff. It's quality though.

Hehe, I hate tracks that are to "rare" to preview on the internet :P

Does anyone have any specific albums to recommend? I'm planning on doing some shopping on Amazon...

L.S.G - Into the deep <----- awesome Oliver Lieb album

Way out West - Dont look now <---- schnauss produced a track on this album with WOW - this album will appeal to a schnauss fan

Pole Folder - Zero gold <------- Not exactly the same style as schnauss but another highly original artist album in the ambient / ambient breaks category. I suggest you check it out.

Check out some ambient / breaks works by Fluke. A good album to start on would be 'Risotto'.

Yunx - The interview EP

Yunx - snake in the grass

I discovered Yunx when I dsicovered Ulrich Schnauss, Yunx is a bit darker but good all the same.

Aphex Twin - Selected ambient works 85 - 92
