does this mean that the mixing was shit but the track itself was good?

to answer on behalf of Starfox (if i may):

In these excerpts, van Dyk is referring to Second Sun...and this was actually how he came across this group based in Toronto. They gave him a CD following one of his gigs, and he actually listened to it. According to van Dyk, the actual track was amazing, but the sound quality was awful. So he tuned up the melody and even decided to remix it...and shazaam! a making of an amazing track from amateur producers..

Second Sun-Empire is gonna be out sometime in April i believe, they are still working on a b-side for the record.....

He was speaking about Second Sun. He said that the actual track was good, but the production of it (i.e. compressing, mastering, samples) were not good and they went into the studio to bring that up to quality.

I can definitely vouch for that. I was one of the people interviewing him
