Worm Popper Ripping vinyl

Hello all!

I have a question about ripping vinyl. Which software do you all use to rip vinyl to your pc? The reason I ask is because I've recently started to rip my vinyl to mp3s and I've been using the software that came with my soundcard, creative recorder. Now I seem to be having a bit of trouble with it, because the recordings are always quieter than your average mp3 ripped from a vinyl. I've worked out that this is nothing to do with input levels, because if I set them any higher than I already do the recordings are distorted. So obviously I want to record my vinyl at a higher volume without it being all distorted and crappy...

Your help on this would be greatly appreciated! And remember- the better my rips are then the better quality mp3s I'll be able to share on here!

Cheers,

barryfigiel.

Cool

Equipment I use:
Technics sl-1200 mk2 Silver
Vestax PCV-175 Mixer
Phono to Stereo Jack connectors

Software:
Total Recorder; to record and normalise volume
Internet Audio Mix; To Trim Wave file to size
MusicMatch; To convert to 192kpbs CBR Mp3 and Tag

I have one problem:
With my Vestax mixer (was never a problem with my Stanton RM3) I have to turn the gain levels to about 2.5 so it only goes up a quarter of the way up the lights on my mixer, but it records at 90% at those levels.

My rips turn out fine, well according to Cable (I agree) but I could do with that sorting.
