My last ambient mix for Dreamscapes

Here's my last ambient set for Dreamscapes last sunday. I've gotten some good feedback before, so I figured I'd give it another go. A bit more varied vibe than my last set for the show. Hope you enjoy!

Just downloaded it, will try to make some time for it this evening (maybe I'll be able to listen to part of it at work already)..

I'm not too good at judging ambient sets though, but we'll see.

Took a listen yesterday evening.. Very nice to listen to and just plain chill out, or as background music for a nice book and a quality glass of wine

As I said, can't say jack shit about mixing techniques in this genre, but there's a nice flow to the set, that's for sure.

great background reading or essay music! i've made 3 chillout trance cds in the past (the last one being about a year ago) so i'm due for a new listen.

Good relaxing set. Wouldn't want to sleep to it though, might freak me out.

really enjoyed this set jan. like people have said the first half was more background music than really sit down and focus on then the second half had some more melody to it and some very nice tracks which i enjoyed. Tho one of the tracks towards the beginning did just sound like a plane going over my house for like 5 mins

Yup, which is why I wanted to use it as a base for another track to be played on top. That's usually how I go at it with the darker stuff, I find a drone or darker piece that has a pretty constant soundpicture throughout, and then find other tracks and samples to add more detail. It's pretty obvius that on a trance-dominated forum the melodic pieces will be the ones standing out more for people, but that is all the more reason for me to play something else as well.

That being said, I could probably pop my headphones on and just zone out completely to the nonstop drone buzz that the Waveform Transmission-track has (I bought the CD after all), but to each his own. Also, the track makes a lot more sense if you hear it in the complete context of the album.

Thanks for the comments guys, keep em coming.

As a whole it was nicely done. Soothing. Already played it twice while doing some schoolwork. Likely will be playing it again. Perfect flow.

Jaa - Missing <-- stood out.

It isn't human to like good music.

Thanks for sharing a quality mix. My respects.

Hard to make a comment about techniques skills because I'm not very familiar with that kind of music but it's a very relaxing and beautiful set.

Could well be. If I make another mix for Dreamscapes however, I can assure you that it will sound quite different from either mix I've already done for the show.

Depends. My sets for this show have pretty much been beatless, so it's all about placing the tracks carefully and blending them as seamlessly as possible, as well as finding tracks to play at the same time to provide complementing contrasts. Then you can add samples, filtering etc. to spice it up a bit.

Didnt expect to hear such a nice ambient set. Hey, Sand Leaper, do you like ambient-ish classical music? Just curious ...

Hm that looks interesting, even though those types of ambient experiments often tend to be rather noodly and dull in my experience. I'll check it.

I wanted to make a cue for this set to burn on a cd, but its hard considering that I never heard these tunes before.
