ICQ XXX Spam

It's getting beyond a joke now. I'm getting 5-6 of these every day! And it seems to me that it's only started since I upgraded to 2001b, which makes me wonder whether they've finally thought of a way to make a profit from ICQ afterall.

Has anybody managed to find a way to successfully filter out all this garbage? Telling it not to accept multi-recipient messages doesn't seem to help, and I don't really want to disable all incoming messages from people not on my list.

Any ideas?

Yeah every1 has the problem..i think i get even more per day...it sucks big time. problem is that u cant put those idiots on ignore list since they'll find other ways to advertize (email, pager, url). i got no clue what to do

hey guys i had this problem too the only way to solve it i got was doing this : main ----> security and privacy, under permissions click messages then click accept messages only from users on my contact list it a bitch if someones try to contact you not on your list but its the only way i got around these bitches (and theres so more handy options there)

I also hate these messages. And I fall for them almost everytime too!!

What amuses is how all these "family-values" people here in the States try to censor the Internet because of porn sites. Dumb asses, do you what goes on in the ICQ stuff your 10-year-old children are using?

YES girld do get them and they are fckin annoying, what pisses me off even more is that my bf has a mac and a dif version of icq and he never gets that shit!!

i used to have this lil progie that did not allow ads at the buttom of my msg window and when i installed 2001 on top i didnt have ads, but i formated my comp and i cant install that progie anymore!!

another way to cut down on those annoying msgs is by checking the option of not accepting URLs from ppl not on your list. that helps a lil.

I tried putting my age down to 13 in the hope that these things wont send to under 18's, but they do I personally think they pay Mirabilis (or AOL or whoever) so they can do this. I actually replied "FUCK OFF!!!" to one though, and got a reply "sorry, I thought you would be interested" which was pretty funny

I only got ICQ spam messages when I upgraded icq2000b from like one build to the next (i.e. I had the two most recent versions) mainly because the update was supposed to stop problems icq had with win XP. Now I get so much of these garbage messages... and worst of all, I didn't turn on authorization request and turn off automatic file transfer when i left the new version of icq on overnight. I use a program called trillian. I can talk to poeple who have ICQ, MSN, AIM, and yahoo at the same time. I think there is some bot crawling around the ICQ site collecting numbers and sending out the ads. I get them on 99b, 200b, and I never went up to 2001, I jsut switched to trillian instead. But I do get the occasional ad. The trick is not letting them have your number. But with all those features ICQ has, it can easily be tracked down. Anyway, if you have seen the light and want trillian. Its at www.trillian.cc

IcQ is still the best Online Messanger out there with the Biggest DB...

Yeah I get 5-6 a day and they all seem to be from the same people. Like so far I've told one to fuck off, another was saying get some viagra for this much, So I messaged them and said for fuck sake I am 19 not some 50 year old who can't get a fucking hard on they stopped messaging aswell . But sometimes some of them are funny my mate she got one the other day about beastality and all that stuff and we were both in tears like it was going on about fucked up shit like it was a massive advertisment and it was like OUR girls fuck horses, dogs, lambs, snakes and we even have ell insertions hahahaha it was so fucked up the dude who like messaged it sent as if it was like the best thing ever too hahaha.

USE TRILLIAN !!!
I don't get any ads on it at all. Beautiful little piece of software.

It's also less of a resource hog than ICQ is.
