Nomen Nescio - Elevate (original mix, 192kpbs, Upl. trance)

Hey People,

Just finished my creative streak of producing with this new piece called Elevate. I think this will be my last track for the next month or so I was inspired by the style of ASOT (Armin Van Buuren), tracks such as Spiral by Robert Nickson.

I think it turned out quite well, lots of new fx and sounds and pretty uplifting stuff. Looking forward to the feedback of you guys, you know I appreciate it a lot

Anyways the track (as always only the first seven minutes) can be heard at :

Cheers everyone!

Sounds Great! Cant really point out any flaws...
Reminds me of Comicsman.

Maybe just a little more variation in the melodic part... seems to be hearing only the same sequence everytime...

Looking forward to hear more new stuff from ya...

Thanks Ac Dc (your name sounds as if you are listening to the wrong kind of music haha). Glad you really like the track.

Keep them coming people

plus
nice effects
the break is good
the leadsound itself is pretty nice

minus
melodies are introduced to fast
i dont like the melody, too happy for my tastes
generic sound

overall
first of all, i have to say im not a fan of ASOT, and especially Spiral, as i can hear the similarities pretty well.. after the break when u introduce the kick again, i think u should have introduced the percussions as well.. and i feel the bass is a bit muddy as its hard to catch the tone of it.. and the melody is going on for a bit long.. and i feel the percussions gets a bit drowned..

6/10

im not being very positive, but its what i think

keep it going

Hey Nomen

Nice uplifting trancer - hits all the spots - couple of years ago I would've really liked this - but I'm not really into this type of trance. But production is very nice - and i do quite like the melody

Beautiful melodies and good bass/percussion. I really like it! Would it be okay if I mix this track, please? Thanks for posting.

Desty Nova : thanks mate! appreciate it, glad you like the track. Will wait a bit for more feedback before I decide if I will send out this track to dj's here on TA but if I do you will get it for sure.

Riialto : Of course one of the few exclusive Dj's who already have the track. Thanks for your feedback and thanks for promoting me as well

Ricky M : cheers mate! Nice to read your review

Subtle : Thanks as well, too bad you do not like Robert Nickson, he surely makes nice uplifting stuff. And for me it was time to make something more uplifting again after All hope is gone and Colour of Autumn Thanks for your comments though! Really appreciate it!

Good tune again dude... again, you've used that quite sharp kinda detuned lead sound which I'm not really into... but it sounds a lot better after the break

Rest of the production is the best you've done yet I think, the melody itself is pretty good although nothing that would really stand out to me.

You've used a quite thin filter sweep sound quite a few times in this and used similar things in your previous tracks... I've gotta say I don't really like them, they sound far too weak on their own.

But yeah other than that it's all good.

5.5/10 just nudging a 6 on the scale, possibly up to 6.5 but I'm not sure... I think you've put yourself in a difficult position with the genre you produce as everything of a similar nature that gets released is just SO well produced these days. It might help if the whole thing was mastered up a bit better, the whole mix could do with a kinda fuller bottom end.

(Scale: 0 = don't bother, 1-3 = needs work, 4-5 = nearly there, 6-8 = releasable, 9-10 = outstanding)

Posted by Nomen Nescio on Sep-27-2005 23:22:

Stu what would I do without you , you are my motivation to get better and better

Seriously, glad you think this is my best track so far. I agree that tracks of similar nature are produced very well although I also feel that melodywise and energywise this track can hold up with a lot of released tracks. Depth is important but not the main thing. And the mastering of many released tracks are not special so I take my chances

Cheers mate!

Well Executed ( Minor Flaws)

Very percussive, and well-driven bassline may be it's strongs points. Excellent melody. Catchy tune. The only flaw I can detect is the introduction of the melody too ealy. If a build up we're given, it would add a sense of progression and uplifting build ups.
Strings sound absolutely breathtaking.

Mind if I put this on my mp3 player?

Posted by Iron Fist on Sep-28-2005 01:44:

Very Nice track you got here dude. It has alot of potential. I must say almost everything is good, except for the introduction of the melody like most people have said. Its early. Like Kris said, you got to make a build up to create a lil bit more energy,it adds some progression and to introduce the melody better, but other than that you are good.

Kris, you disappoint me. You will have to work harder now if you want to be better than Nomen (Darth Vader Voice)

LOL j/k.

Hey man, nice tune! The most standout feature for me is the energy in this track, it's got a real drive. Probably to do with the percs + bassline, which are excellent. Melody is nice, and the whole tune is really uplifting.
Mentions of ASOT and spiral are probably appropriate, but that's a pretty high standard and you've achieved something almost on par which is really outstanding.
Production-wise it's pretty tight, but I think you overused the falling star quite a bit, and on the soundclick hi-fi stream it was sounding a little bit thin overall, not sure if the encoding did that but it's definitely lacking a bit of thump in the bass.
Excellent work!

Posted by Nomen Nescio on Sep-28-2005 13:16:

Wow getting some very enthusiastic response here. That means a lot to me

Kris Xperiment : No I do not mind when you put this track on your mp3 player. Just don't distribute it to other people please Regarding the build up, if I had extended it I am prettu sure commennts on here would have been "build up takes too long" so that was a deliberate choice and I think it is decent enough as it is

Iron Fist : Thanks mate! Glad you like the track. You spooked me though, Dart Vader has a scary voice haha. Looking forward to a new Kris track now as well Good thing of TA is that we fellow producers push each other to the limits to get better.

Pho Mo : Wow that is a nice reply. Thanks mate. Glad you think this track is almost up to par with Spiral. For the record guys, I do not have the illussion that I am in the same league as those producers
And yes the lack of bass defitately has something to do with the encoding on Soundclick. For some reason the Soundclick player adds more treble and leaves out a bit of bass. Also this is just the 192 version. I have compared the 320 version on my pc with the 192 version on Soundclick and in the 320 version there is a better bass and less high.

Keep them coming people

Really nice track, love the melody and strings. Good energy. Cant really find anything wrong with it.

Thanks sm44, again someone who likes the track. This is going well Cheers mate and good luck on updating your project!

Quote Nomen Nesio: Thanks Ac Dc (your name sounds as if you are listening to the wrong kind of music haha).

LOLS just to clarify... if im not wrong ac dc suppose to mean anti christ something something but NO.. im not..

i suppose to mean something like trance is like electricity but then i realise that its quite lame... lols but cant changed it...

Posted by Takkra on Sep-28-2005 20:25:

hey man.. I like the intro alot! the percs work really good with the bass.. the riffs feel really "sweet and cute" Dont know what that is but they just feel that way .. I think if you make this track more progressive then it will be really great! your up to something here! work this out man! I dont know why everyones complaining.. I like the song period.

maybe just maybe a more progressive build up version would be better imo..

de echte trance komt uit nederland he

Posted by Jay M on Sep-28-2005 20:43:

Good kick. Nice full sounding. Melodies are nice at start.

But the bass has a delay which makes it very muddy, sound is too raw sounding. Eq lacks too, sounds are fighting to get a place in the mix. Percussion other than hats are hard to hear (the rim is raw and pulled to the max to make room). Hard to notice any variety beacause of it.. it hink it isn't there

Nice attempt, but mix doenst sound refined, in a way it's raw and harsh, not a real pleasure to listen to. Id suggest some additional eq-ing, cutting some from the high and low end of the synths maybe and clearing up the bass. Some panning on the hats and a little bit on the synths to make more room.

Good luck
-Jay

Hey guys thanks for the feedback!

Takkra ja alle goede trance komt uit nederland he Although Canadians and Americans are also pretty decent these days.

Jay M, I respect your criticism but when you start talking about panning the hi hats while they are already panned then I can't really do anything with it. Also I checked out your track Exuberance (which really is an awesome original track, my compliments for that) and I think you use too much low end and mtherefore sounds also get lost because of that So I guess that is just the way you like to hear tracks with a whole lot of bass

I am no expert on mastering but I do pan and stereoimage a lot and make sure a lot of sounds have their own place. As far as the high ends go, Soundclick for some reason has more treble then when I listen to the 320 version on my pc, so that one is less high you can trust me on that one

Thanks everyone!

im not very deeply into producing so i cant really comment the production side. i like the feeling the song gives ... hard to describe. i cant find anything 'wrong' in the song - just great work

Posted by groundzero74 on Sep-28-2005 22:48:

Nice & Clean Trance Track ... this is the type of trance i like. Only one remark... i think the "delayed percussion ticks" (dunno what you'd call it)are too much on the foreground... that's it .

quote:
Takkra ja alle goede trance komt uit nederland he

En Belge is er weer niet bij...

Posted by Nomen Nescio on Sep-28-2005 23:02:

Thanks Dhagor and Groundzero74 Again two people who like the track. And yeah the woodblock is and the foreground a bit, that is true. But it is not that dominant I believe. It was intended to be a bit more on the foreground to create a sound that stands out as well besided the synths.

ooh and Groundzero to continue: Er komt wereldse trance uit Belgie, L-Vee en M.I.K.E reken ik tot mijn favoriete producers Nederland en Belgie zijn top trancelanden

Thanks people!

Posted by Kthought on Sep-29-2005 00:26:

Hey Mr. Nomen, I like this track, it is definitely the style of trance i Like.

Very nice work Musically, the melody and progression is incredible, Especially after the first main breakdown, where the progression dips into some dischordance, then back to the main progression, like i said, Great Music. Deserves Lots of Praise.

The Treble issue has been adressed, i suppose it is encoding from the site, but the "falling star" hurt my ears and i have completely flat sound.

you may be tired of hearing this, but Really REALLY: Need to have some sort of dramatic introduction of the main melody. If you just stop percussion or dim out a few sounds while that comes in you dont even have to change the sequence arrangement, just automate a few things out and have that melody enter more dramatically. I believe, with all my heart that that would step this track to the point of chills down the spine rather than just catchy. Dynamics, Low points and Hi points interacting with music is what trance is all about, so put your music to work for itself!

8/10

Great Work!
