DJ Mixing Software

First off, sorry if this has been done to death but with the searches I get it either gives me an error telling my search is too long or I get Ableton or some other live mixing software.

What I basically want is a basic mixing program that I can make some simple cd's with. I don't care to get crazy but I'd rather not listen to a trance cd that pauses in between tracks so I just wanna be able to pick tracks and mix the cd together nicely while still being able to skip between tracks 1, 2, 3, etc...

Thanks!

Edit: Am I wrong in thinking that Ableton and Final Scratch (to name a few) are only good for live mixing or can I use these programs for my intention? Either way, I just want something basic and that I could pick up in less then a day.

Thanks a lot. Definitely looks like what I need.

Ableton will do what you're looking for, as will mixmeister.

Abletons more complicated than mixmeister although having used both its possibly less frustrating!!

My advice would be to start off with mixmeister and as you get more accustomed to what youre doing you may want to move onto ableton, or even mixing with decks (thats what happened to my bro).

Well, I do have decks but aren't being used because I still need to get speakers and a decent mixer. So I am just trying to control my itch by doing something fun like this for a while.

in that case go for ableton, mixmeister will probably piss you off!!

although having said that I havent used it since version 3 i think so it might of improved

anyway, if you already have decks give ableton a try, you can do everything you can in mixmeister, plus it gives you the opportunity to try out all the extra things and creative stuff you can do with it.

As Abelton live I'm sure is a lot better than MixMeister (I own version 4 of it), what this guy seems to want to do is just make simple mixes. Ableton is definitely more for people who are professionals, who have been mixing for quite sometime (years..) and want to mix, remix and edit tracks. It is also what $500, versus only $279 for MixMeister Pro 6, $169 for Studio Edition and only $49 for the express version (Which is probably all he needs). You can probably get away with buying the express, non pro version if all you wants to do is mix tracks together for fun, and not looking to really impress someone with your mixing. So I would definitely recommend MixMeister, or Traktor for that matter.

i haven't used ableton and i have no idea how it works...anyhow...

if you're looking to mix your songs (similar to using equipment) then mixmeister is useless....

for that i use virtual dj, it's fast, easy to learn...you have all the features...and if your'e computer is great...you can do wonders...

also when you record you can set that the program will cut each song, and therefore you mix them, but when you put them on cd you can skip through them...

then whenyou make your cd make sure you put no break between songs (use nero...it's great at this)...

output of Virtual DJ always sounded shitty to me and required post processing (which you usually don't want to do)

actually Traktor DJ :P is much better than virtual DJ...

haven't used traktor, but the output for the ones i've made with virtual dj sound pretty damn good...

Traktor is great, love it. Though in Nov. Traktor is coming out with version 3, has 4 track mixer, and effects etc.

I would look into Traktor.
