John Askew - Lower The Tone New Triple Cd Album
John Askew - Lower The Tone album
Release Date: 5th December
Label: Discover
Distribution: Amato

In a scene where DJs are two a penny and mix albums are as regular as buses it takes a special kind of DJ with a special kind of talent and vision to push the boundaries just that bit further. Step forward John Askew - his eagerly awaited debut album Lower The Tone hits the stores just in time for Christmas festivities.
John Askew is a name on the London club scene that really needs no introduction. Having played at some of the biggest events the capital has had to offer and with residencies at the Gallery and Ministry Sound he has wowed over 450,000 clubbers worldwide alone this year with his unsurpassable mixing talents and unique brand of driving, energetic Tech Trance. Now John is all set to release his debut artist album entitled Lower The Tone a triple cd album which will set a new standard within his scene. Its also an in-depth look into the music behind the man.
The first cd is a DJ friendly unmixed back catalogue of some of Johns favourite self-productions. As youd expect its over an hours worth of totally banging floor savaging Tech Trance that is packed full to the rafters with heavy dance artillery that many a budding DJ will be desperate to get their hands on.
The second cd is the aptly named Live as f**king f**k, which was recorded earlier this year at The Gallery, Turnmills. When we live in a world of airbrushing imperfections and editing mistakes its refreshing to see that one DJ is going against the grain. This really is a true reflection of a peak time John Askew setits as if youre there. It comes complete with crowd noises and the occasional imperfection (none of us are perfect!), but John has ventured into un-chartered territory by releasing a mix album that has been totally un edited and really is what it says on the tin Live As f**king f**k.
This last cd is more unconventional than the other two. With this extra CD John has had the chance to feature a few more alternative tracks. Mixed Emotions is based on personal experiences of fear, anger, frustration, anxiety, random insanity and good old deranged humour. The latter is articulated through the twenty-minute recording that John made of a room full of mates who had been awake for 2 days getting hammered! The conversation is so unhinged and side splittingly amusing that he felt it would have been unfair to not share the banter with you.

Profile
John Askew is without doubt one of the hottest tech/trance producer/djs in the UK, if not the World, right now. After the huge success of his debut single Vellum in 2001, he has delivered release after release of consistently high quality club music either on his own Discover label or via one of his many remixes for high profile labels such as Duty Free, Ministry of Sound, Euphonic and Paul van Dyks legendary Vandit.
From guest appearances on BBC Radio One, to Londons prestigious Kiss 100 offering him his own show; from exclusive residencies at 2 of the Worlds most influential clubs (The Gallery and Ministry of Sound) to an ever increasing diary of guest slots around the world, John Askew is now enjoying the rewards for over a decade of consistently hard work.
For 2 years John has rocked the main room at Ministry with his legendary, end of the night sets. Since 2001 John has also been pushing his distinctive sounds to the masses through his record label - Discover - which has seen releases from the likes of The Thrillseekers, Pablo Gargano and Germanys Kyau vs Albert to name but a few.
Today, Discover is often credited in the press as a trend setting label that enjoys an almost Cult status. Its strict music policies, instigated by John, firmly oppose cheesy melodies, predictable clichs and horrendous, meaningless female vocals that in Johns mind have tarnished so much of the scene today.
Johns dj sets reflect his highly opinionated views on music. His ear for high quality music, without always taking the obvious anthemetic route, and subtle, yet highly emotive melodies, derived from years of song writing in a plethora of rock bands, makes each and every one of Johns sets unique.

cant wait for this, Askew is the man at the moment!!saw him at passion couple of weeks back, he rocked!!!
Great stuff!!!
As much as i'm looking forward to this i don't see why they've put such a late release date. Most of the CD1 is familiar territory and CD2 will be dated by then. :\

| Cd by Cd breakdown of my debut album By John Askew CD 1 The Singles From the perspective of a DJ who uses CDs as well as vinyl, there is nothing more depressing than being unable to sleep with excitement due to the imminent arrival of a new album from one of your favourite producers only to find that when it does finally grace the shelves of your local music outlet and you rush home to have a thorough afternoons smoking and mixing you find all the tracks are blended together making them unmixable. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo Gutted!!!! I know that feeling so well that I would hate to know that I had caused any fans of my music to endure this sense of utter deflated disappointment. So I have decided to create a completely DJ friendly cd for all you budding Tiestos out there so that you lovely people can use it in the club, the pub or even as a coaster if you want to but hopefully not the latter. CD 2 - Live as Fucking Fuck We all know my thoughts on the majority of mix albums that are coming out at the moment. Theyre all made on fucking computers! I dont have a problem with this means of mixing, but when the DJ in question puts mixed by dj x on the front cover thats where my difficulties start. Well you wont get any of that shit here. When it was decided that I would do a mix CD for the album I immediately said that I wanted to do it live from a club with crowd noise included. I wanted it to be 100% live. If there were mistakes I wanted them left. If the sound went a bit fucked in places I wanted it left that way. I want the people who are at the gig to be able to listen back to a recording of exactly what they heard on the night. When you listen to a Radio One Essential mix live from Ibiza or wherever and you have the crowd going nuts in the background, its just fucking wonderful. And if the dj playing fucks up a mix, then great!! As least you know then that you are listening to a human being, not a fucking computer. This second cd is a collection of my favourite tracks of the moment, mixed live at my favourite club The Gallery, Turnmills in London. No edits, no polishing, no bullshit. Just Live as Fucking Fuck! CD 3 MIXED EMOTIONS A while ago I was trawling through loads of alternative tracks that I had made in the studio and it occurred to me that they would contribute something different to this album if included on a 3rd bonus CD. For me the whole clubbing/dance music thing is not only about going to clubs or festivals, its also about those crazy post club sessions sat in someones house talking shit or the huge feelings of depression that Tuesday can sometimes bring after a particularly heavy weekend etc etc. When you are expected to produce tracks that are exclusively aimed at the dance floor, it is often hard to get the opportunity to make music that reflects or represents other sides to the story. I come from a rock background and when you are in a band and something fucks you off, you can write a tune with a set of lyrics that explicitly express how you feel. But how can you express how much you hate George Bush and his barbaric foreign policy if you are a trance and techno producer? Putting together an album gave me the opportunity to include this extra CD with a few alternative bits on there which are reflections of some of the other highs and lows that I have recently experienced. Mixed Emotions is based on personal experiences of fear, anger, frustration, anxiety, random insanity and good old deranged humour. Perhaps the highlight of this final cd is the recording I made when I walked into a room full of mates who had been awake for 2 days getting hammered, the conversation was so unhinged yet side splittingly amusing that I thought it would wrong not to sneak a microphone into the equation and record the unhinged banter to share with you. Im sure it may well offend the less open minded people who might make the mistake of taking what they hear seriously or indeed those of you who have no experience of the joys of talking utter bullshit for hours on end after returning from a big night of clubbing. Bill Goes Nuts is a tribute to those post club sessions where nonsense is king. |
