adding Video to your dj set

Do you what it is called the video that appears on big screen at some clubs? The kind where its from your perspective and your flying through different places. how do you get it?

Isnt it called PCP?

In all seriousness djs dont normally have much to do with the visuals and if your looking to do this properly its not just as simple as download and play.

Just out of curiosity, while we're on the topic, Is there any big name dj's began using the new dvd pioneer decks? i remember tiesto havin them in the dj booth at his second tiesto in concert, but from watching the dvd i dont recall him ever using them, i might be wrong though.

check this baby out, well customisable, you can use your own visuals and even 'play' it from the keyboard to match bar changes etc

i saw marco V doing it several times before ...
eg. when you see the vocals or the video to his own tracks appear on big screen.

(tiesto has used it for the vocals-purpose aswell in his TIC's)

I recommend you the Winamp Visualization Studio, AVS

if you ar einterested I can send you many Visualizations from Winamp, and they are all free for use in public scene even.

Many of this visuzalizations follow the BPM of a song, and they are very nice.

I was thinking about using winamp AVS to run a projector at a party. You'll need a very fast computer and a video card with TV out for projector.

I'd recommend a vid card with a DVI out, and a projector with a DVI in input, as it will allow for better resolution. And then run your booth out to the input of your computer.

Most cards that offer dula displays offer a vga output and a DVI output.

DVI would offer a better picture over all.

search; 'VLM' or 'virtual light machine' on google. especially the atari jaguar vlm! its the best there is!

this is the stuff you mean i think..

What you are talking about is mostly pre-recorded content that is played back throughout the night and there is no One solution fits all thing out there.

Ideally you would have a vj.

If you want to read up more about the whole vj scene check out www.vjcentral.com

I personaly am a vj and I 95% of the content I use I either filmed or created myself ( cgi )

If you were seriously considering going the DVJ-X1 route here's what you would need:
DVJ X1 X 2
6400 $
Allen Heath Xone 62 mixer ( must have a midi capable mixer to synch up with the video mixer )
1200 $
Edirol V4 video mixer
1000 $
give or take several small lcd monitor
300~400 $

total 7900~ $

You could also go with a regular dj mixer and some cheap Panasonic Ave5 video mixer they cost about 200~400 bucks on ebay BUT you will have to do all the mixing of sound and video separate as there will be no link to synch them ( or you could try doing a bootleg remote crossfader that plugs into the video mixer and that you switch under the sound mixer cross fader just like ninjatunes did in the past )

yeah and what about the price tag involved with a dvi input projector?

Keep in mind that the pro market doesn't even use DVI input capable projectors it's mostly for the high end home theater market.

Yeah that's cool if you want some cheesy old school graphics.
add to that the fact it's obsolete hardware, barely customizable either

You mean the ones the VJ's use?

Check this out for cool visuals: Geiss Werks. My favorite is MilkDrop. Geiss I've used a few times by using the line-in ability, and it looks really nice blown up on a big screen. It's eye-candy though, for the most part.
