Talking My First Beatmatch

Finally got my mixer in today, and successfully completed my first beatmatch! (: Was aided by the fact that I've got Petter's Six Songs EP, which has the BPM listed for each tune. (:

It actually occurred to me to label the bpms, because right now my biggest problem is figuring out whether the tune needs to be sped up or slowed down, and by how much.

And thanks. (:

Here's my Theory:

If you spin the record fast and it matches, put the pitch up a bit
If you stop the record a bit and it maches, put the pitch down a little bit

That's the key to beatmatching right there. If you get those two little things down, anybody can beatmatch.

Except my neighbor of course. He bought DJ equipment a year ago and still can't beatmatch one song. AT ALL.

im sorry but if you can't beatmatch at all after that long, you've got something wrong with you.

Does his crate consist of britney and fidy cent?
Either that or his decks have serious pitch issues

good idea. At first that will really help you. After awhile you'll be able to tell immediately on your own without looking at the bpms. Keep at it!

When theory cannot be disproved it becomes LAW!

i think you just made "the 1st thermodynamic law of beatmatching"

minus the thermodynamic.....cause it just sounds cool we'll leave it

sounds like my brother.. he dosnt really play anymore, i think he gave up. but after a year or so he couldnt do it either . He just didnt grasp the concept. Some people need a push. I found with my gf , I just had to keep reminding her , grab that beat , rock it, let it go.. i told her if it is on (even for a split second) thats when you can speed up or slow down.. But if you drop that beat on, and it is not lined up in the first place, it will be harder as you have to line it up before matching the speeds.. she is matching fairly good, her progress is faster then what mine was.
