Randy Katana - Play It Loud/Play It Louder [Jinx Records]

Apparently, this track has created some amount of controversy. The lead in Play It Loud is an extremely over-used melody and rather dated so to speak. Voodoo & Serano, Public Domain have already used it and I have heard countless bootlegs that have it as well. Then WHY is this track selling like hotcakes? Honestly, I don't know.
Fortunately, this record's saving grace is Play It Louder and it is exactly how I thought it would be. Randy's distinctive tribal-tech twist with crumbs of trance thrown in is prevalent throughout the record. He has stuck to his textbook style and it will work like magic on the floors.

Play It Loud - 6.5/10 (Lack of originality)Listen here
Play It Louder - 8.5/10 (Good ol' Katana style) Listen here

Out now.

I think the reason it works so well is because it literally comes out of nowhere

My friend mentioned that the other day

When Tiesto played it live the place went nuts cuz no one saw it coming

One of those tunes you actually have to experience live before judging I personally think

Play It Louder is massive... I heard tiesto play it live at TICLA and the place just went off... For me it's the beat, it just makes you dance.

Same here

I could never really judge a track till I hear it live its such a different experience

Place went off though for sure

its the biggest waste ever

when the theme comes on, theres nothing going on...and it stays that way. thers absoluteyl no drive to it at all, no perscusiion, nothing...just a beat and nothing else

BORING AS SHIT!!!!!

i try to praise at least one thing about a song (minus anything by smith and pledger) but this is utter crap....pure garbage

As Armin spinned it @ Nature One as the opening track the whole open air area went nutz wenn the melody came in.

But for me it's just a boring track because the melody is sooooo old and soooooo overplayed.

I think only the younger partypeople who've never heard the older versions live like this.

also the breakdown is too long, those snare rolls could send you to sleep

yeah, i would agree with what everyone is saying about the melody coming out of nowhere..i played this track before DJ Jean came on and got quite a reaction out of it. DJ Jean also played it and got the same kind of reaction. i think it'll wear out in a short while tho, the track is classic but overplayed..but i've always been a fan of katana.

blade rave song (katana's ripoff remix)

Posted by ChoBo on Oct-04-2005 05:06:

I think the track is overrated

Posted by xstalkrx on Oct-04-2005 07:54:

this is blood is pumping with a very boring bassline leading up to the big surprise. however, the majority of dancefloors are going to love this track as others have mentioned. that melody that has been so overused will likely always make people lose their minds.

Yeah but before it hits that overplayed crappy melody, the build up would be used in any Techno head's set and something like that in a Armin live set (which usually are harder than most people expect) is perfect.

First 3/4 minutes of the song 7/10
Last 3/4 minutes of the song 3/10

b-b-b-bass in the place london!

Posted by clubsolutely on Oct-04-2005 12:47:

i think this tune is maybe not the best but far best than pleasure island which was how i call it....empty

Looks like Katana recently isn't capable to make new songs. He either remakes his own old stuff or uses other people's old stuff

Pure Innovation...

btw. Heard this track 2 times, i think it's utter crap. 0/10

Armin said in his show it was one of the biggest tunes of 2005 LMAO

very very disappointing

IMO while it isn't exactly new it works very well on the dancefloor.. I heard it first while listening to Armin's N1 set at home, and then when I saw him live a couple of weeks later it had the same effect - and most recently last week Ferry dropped it at the San Fran Love Parade - the crowd goes nuts to it - that's really all that matters.

I really do hate Play It Louder, Sooo boring :<

Indeed it does

Not a tune to listen to while at home on the comp more suited for a club atmosphere

IMO, this is certainly not as good as Pleasure Island but is still a VERY capable tune. Of course, I am talking about Play It Louder. It seems that Katana gets a lot of negative feedback for his tunes mainly because more than half the people commenting on his tunes have most probably NOT heard it LIVE. You can't help but not dance to his tunes live as they are so in-ya-face
I remember similiar views regarding Fancy Fair 2005 but it's absolutely devastating live.

Posted by DJ Nickazz on Oct-05-2005 18:39:

It's just with those katana tracks..when you hear them @ your computer or something you think like: boring
But when you hear them live or a your bedroom very loud with the bass on you think like: OMG
I'm starting to like his tracks more and more. His records are growing on me each day. Say about him what you want and that the rips off and all that shit but really, his tunes rocks when you PLAY IT LOUD

Posted by Maor Levi on Oct-06-2005 00:38:

the sound he used here is the famous sound that he used in his hit "One Solid Wave" which became a hit coz of Sam Sharp Mix which f***ing beats the original !

Posted by InDeepSpace on Oct-06-2005 10:35:

Something 4 the trashcan. 1 of the most annoying tunes of 2005.
Using standard sounds, an endless shit break and than that annoying Blade-Theme. How weak can someone be to use a sound which was allready covered by Public Domain & Warp Brothers!!!!

0/10

Posted by r5a on Oct-06-2005 13:15:

Fucking terrible.

Posted by Satelllite on Oct-06-2005 16:05:

it's probably the worst track of 2005
ugly 0/10 also
