Exclamation My New Production – Elixir ‘Last Light’ (With Jussi Remix) [Trance] [Samples]

My new track is all but finished baring a few subtle tweaks and changes and it’s been tried out at venues over the past few months to great effect.

In addition to the original, a remix comes from young Finnish producer Jussi Soro. With a very successful twelve months behind him, Jussi’s remix of Kyamoto’s ‘Stealth’ (as one half of Miika & Jussi) was signed to the legendary UK trance label ATCR earlier this year and he is also currently remixing for trance legend Matt Darey. Jussi’s previous tracks have found their way to one of the worlds premier trance labels, Five AM and his latest track ‘Backlash’ is forthcoming on Five AM later this year.

The original takes an energetic and uplifting approach whilst Jussi’s remix takes things on a deeper more driving progressive-edged sound. I’m just about 100% happy with the final mix so please click the links below and I’d much appreciate the feedback.

Original Mix:

From the start it seems that your kick is a bit too thuddy. It probably sounds fine on speakers, but in my cans it's a little thuddy. The piano is a little flat too. Maybe bring it up and octave and make the reverb a little more noticable. In general it sounds like you should go back and spend some more time with the fx on your synths. One element you have that I would leave alone is the choir pad. It sits in there exactly how it should. I love the kinda dry sound it has. A few of the fills you have (particularly the one near the end of the clip) sound a little over the top, with kick rolls and crashes all over the place, not really working together.

Jussi Mix:

I really like the atmosphere this one has, though it's not what I expected to hear. I expected about 6 more bpm with a big rolling bassline from Jussi, but this is very nice. I like the portamento he has on the lead synth, though I think it's a little quiet in the mix. His piano is a little more of the sound I prefer, but it could still use a bit more decay on the reverb. That hi-end saw pad seems to draw a bit more attention than it merits imo. Its a bit too screamy and could stand a bit further back in the mix.

It may come off as a bit harsh, but hopefully its constructive. Overall I think Jussi's mix has a step on yours production-wise, but neither of the tracks really grab me. Maybe with a longer more emotional use of that piano line the track would be a bit more 'standout-ish' but even that has been done to death.

Not a bad effort by any means, it just falls into the 'overdone' bin for me.

Hey mate, pretty good song here! There's lots of elements working together to give a pretty good groove, but overall I think the tune lacked a little focus. Each part is nice and well done in it's own right.
I liked how you lengthened the attack of the synth coming in during the breakdown, then afterwards came in with the choirs - that was a really nice touch.
*edit* btw was talking about the original mix.

Thanks for the comments so far guys. All great feedback! Will be sending them off for mastering shortly so a few subtle changes may be on the horizon just yet too!
