CDJ 1000 MK2 ... What The...

I'd just finished booting up my cdj's, and popped a cd into one of them, put another cd in the other, turned around to the original and saw that there was something very very wrong with it. It booted up fine first, ejected the cd fine, but when i put the new one in it just messed up. Nothing showed up on the display, none of the buttons lit up - the only thing that showed visible signs of life was the display inside the jog dial - ALL the lights were on, and at an intensity i'd never seen before.

I'm thinking somehow, somewhere along the line a resistor blew or whatever. I tried different power sources, switched the power cables, used force eject on the cd and tried it all again. Nothing changed.

I'm bringing it into long and mcquade tomorrow (local store) to have it replaced. I'm not very serious about accepting a refurb... but i'm wondering if any of you have had this problem and can shed some light on my problem. Maybe there's a way i can fix it without having to bring it in to L&M...

I wouldn't try to fix it yourself, I've seen pictures of them taken apart and they are rather intricate. And you'll void the warranty...
How old is the unit? You could have Pioneer repair it...

oh i have no intention of opening it up myself - i figured maybe there was an innate reset, something like a hardware/soft reset on the firmware.

i bought it in december of 2004 so i still have warranty on it.

Oh my turd, def. take it in. Never heard of this happening before.

I had the same exact thing happen to one of my MK2's. This is actually the first time I heard of someone else with the same prob. I went to put a cd in and bam, the unit just shut off. Just like you said I turned it back on and the display inside the jog wheel was lit up very bright and everything else was just dead. I ended up brining it back to get a replacement, nothing else you can really do.

I'm never heard of that problem before.

But twice I'd had them lock up on me completely. I'll like everything just froze. Of course both times it happened was while I was in front of a couple hundred people. I think once I just hit play and it started again and the other time I had to put a new disk in. Later both disks played fine.

Kinda scary but for the most part I still trust them.
