adjust the eq's during or before the mix?

I'm wondering whether its best to adjust the eq's of the cued track before you bring it into the mix or after? Or does it even matter?

I honestly think you gotta do both. Definately do it as you go, so you can adjust it to whats playing. It's different with each track on the precise settings. Everybody does it a little differently, there's no set way. Just whatever you think will make it sound good.

Both dude,

the sound system can have different response to different sound frequencies than ur headphones. So adjusting EQ before mixing is only a rough thing.

what i do is asjust EQ as i mix in, and listen to the change in Bass, on the sound system itself.

If u find the need to adjust EQ whilst playing, the only suggestion i can think of is not making it obvious, unless u especially want it to be like that, to make it sound cool (like cutting the bass, every second beat), which i do sometimes.

do what sounds good

if it's too bassy, take some bass out of one of the tracks, if there's too much going on in the high end, take some high out

knowing how much and from which track, that takes practice, and lots of it

Realy depends because you might wonna use the eqs to actualy fade the track in.

i wouldnt really muck around with the eq's once the beat and melody are goin but wait for the break down, unless you're not sure what you want to change.

Both because I use the EQs and the faders to mix.

yeah exactly.

inch the faders up a bit.. maybe tweak the eq when its comin in.. its a fluid process not like.

push fader up. turn treble to 11 oclock. Mids at 10 oclock bass at 9.

its just smoother...
