Bush: "God told me to invade Iraq"

'I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, "George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan." And I did, and then God would tell me, "George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq " And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, "Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East." And by God I'm gonna do it.'"

-- George W Bush, President of the United States of America.

BBC press release

White house is denying it tho, but somehow it seems like it could be true.

The big question is, should we laugh or cry?

I wonder what dumber thing can he say after he said that. I won't be surprised if he beats that remark.

Well, it was Bush's god telling him to go to war, so that means it could possibly have been Jahbulon or maybe even Baphomet trying to lead us closer to our downfall. I mean, if our country was in a state of virtual bankruptcy years ago, what do you think will happen in the years to come after all of the current spending starts to accrue? We're already paying an overly exhorbitant amount of taxes now, and considering the big picture, we're barely being taxed - given the horrendous state of our economy. I'm actually scared for the future of our Nation because I feel like it's being led down a path of self-destruction.

The well informed citizenry that Eisenhower talked about in his farewell speech are few and far between - mostly because of the tight grip that's placed on the media. Maybe I am paranoid, or perhaps it is just a heightened state of awareness (as some say), but the few of us that ARE in the know could easily be weeded out - like has been done throughout history, as was done by the Nazi's.

The German's didn't see it coming, and it's no secret why

The sad thing is that if i heard voices in my head telling me to kill people i would be called a terrorist and shot on sight, or at least put into the asylum, while Bush not only is he still alowed to do it, he gets praise for it.

i thought this was just another crack-pot story until in i read the story below. if the the WH is denying it, then there is probably some truth to the story. my reaction: of all the STUPID, IDIOTIC, and RECKLESS things bush has mustered enough energy to utter, this has to be in the top five.

White House denies Bush claimed divine inspiration 2 hours, 19 minutes ago

The White House has denied that US President George W. Bush said God told him to invade Iraq and Afghanistan, as a new BBC documentary is expected to reveal.

"That's absurd. He's never made such comments," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Thursday.

The documentary series set to be broadcast later this month in Britain claims Bush made the claim when he met Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and then-foreign minister Nabil Shaath in June 2003.

He also told them he had been ordered by God to create a Palestinian state, the ministers said.

Shaath, now the Palestinian information minister, said: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God'".

"'God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan'.

"'And I did. And then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq... ' And I did.

"'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And by God I'm gonna do it'," said Shaath.

Abbas, who was also at the meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh, recalled how the president told him: "'I have a moral and religious obligation'".

"'So I will get you a Palestinian state.'"

The three-part series, "Elusive Peace: Israel and the Arabs", charts the attempts to bring peace to the Middle East, from former US president Bill Clinton's talks in 1999-2000 to Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza strip.

The series is due to begin airing Monday.

Wierd eh?

Of course you're basing your accusation on hearsay not fact; not really surprising considering the amount of venom that runs amok here...

Well I must concur with Trancer here, only because it does seem quite apparent that you defend Bush on pretty much any and every cause brought up here on the forums. The fact that you may be Conservative I mark nothing against - hell I disagree with you guys all the time but I swear I'd take Shakka or Neophono out boozin' any night of the week if I had the chance. But the breed of Bush apologists that are akin to, say, the Hannities or the Limbaughs are quite a breed apart, IMO. You may certainly disagree with Bush on some instances, but I have yet to hear such examples coming from you.

Okay, how's this - I'll give you a list of things I agree with Bush on, and you give a list of things you disagree with him on, how's that? And to make things even easier, I'll go first:

1. Invading Afghanistan - absolutely correct and 100% behind him.

2. Ability to bring the country together immediately post-9/11. I thought his straight-shooting rhetoric fit very well for that particular time.

3. First tax cut. Made fiscal sense, though at first I disagreed with it (admittedly, Occ had something to do with changing my mind.)

4. Wanting to create a Palestinian state. Though I think he could have done a much better job in certain aspects with this scenario, I do agree at least with his philosophical approach.

5. Was once a pretty big hard-partier. Something that we both have in common, except I didn't have to turn to Jebus to get me outa the mess. Whatever works, I guess.
(side note - Admittedly, I still love taking strolls down Knob Creek every now and then. And the Mrs. having a part-time bartending job at our local brewery on the weekends doesn't hurt much either ).

6. Revamping the Intelligence community. I agree it needed some changin' out of it's Cold War mentality. Of course the details on revamping it I disagree with him on, but the overall philosophy I agree with.

I'm sure there's some others I can come up with, but I'm a little pressed for time this morning.

Your turn - what do you disagree with Bush on?
(am I hijacking this thread? Sorry).

Actually, I was basing the accusation on your posts on this board.

May God save our asses from Bush's "Genius".. Seriously monkeyface get a fucking clue.. Your a fucking president!

Yeah .. I hate him.. BLOW ME! :P

Posted by Alex on Oct-07-2005 20:48:

How is this news?

Before he invaded Afghanistan he said "we're on a crusade".

This didn't really catch me off guard...

THAT BEING SAID, wow, it really is a medieval situation if Bush really said that and if his government (and him) really believe that...(although unlikely).
