Subwoofers

Iv got a house partie comming up in about two months and for my setup all i have are two speakers that are quiet loud with nice mids and highs but they lack bass. I could do the party without a sub or just a small one but for a two car garage (brick) how many watts rms would i be looking into for a subwoofer and does anyone have recomendations for one (prefably powered) around $500 USD.

Just rent a subwoofer such as a Mackie 15" self-powered - even that unit will be overkill.

OR check out the B52 Matrix 1000 site - there is a review from someone in "Oz".

They're a little more money, but can replace a subwoof, your other speakers & amp. Perfect size for house parties, smaller clubs etc.

The thing is i dont wonna rent coz im actualy looking into adding this to my setup. Iv got a 200w sub at home from a logitech 5.1 system. How would that sub fair at a small housepartie?? In the end i could always rent or borrow from someone but i actualy want to buy one.

The Mackie sub would be overkill but you could just keep the volume down. The pro subwoofers are hard to find in sizes smaller than 15".

I suppose you could look for a home-audio type sub for a house party, but they're not rugged enough to be moved around too much, like for taking to a lot of parties. But if you were careful you could do that. I tested out a 10" Velodyne sub once for a bit of house & trance, sounded great but a softer mellow sound than pro club gear which is quite punchy, the owner said the sub was very rugged and unbreakable but he mostly just used it for movies and a bit of music and I don't think he ever stressed it like we would for several hours of thumpthump.

If you're mostly wanting to use the speakers at home and at house parties you might do better with rugged home audio stuff as the pro equipment sounds a little harsh at close distance. Some people use larger monitor type speakers at their smaller parties, great sound quality at near distances and some can go quite loud.

Iv been looking at this sub here.
JBL E250P <
The only thing that im not sure about is coz its home audio.

Im not planning to do alot of house parties so for the majority of its life it should be in my room. Its nicely in my price range too.
So if you could just tell me your opinions on it.

Edit: I have a pretty good amp its abit old but definitly powerfull enough and ill just be using the second set of outputs because theirs no sub-out, would that affect it much?
