pissing contest

I want to be wowed by the sheer knowledgebase that is in these forums for EDM. So please provide me with your most interesting piece of EDM trivia (doesnt have to be trance based) or failing that, your most outlandish prediction or speculation. Facts about prodcuers or genres, rants, stories about Tiesto trainwrecks... I dont give a fuck, its all fair game.

Cmon give it me...

Ok ... In BT's Last Three Albums I Quote from the man himself "There's not an Extraneous Reverb Tail In My Music, There's Not a single ringing frequency below 150 hz on a single hi hat on any of my last three albums " ... DAMN ...

also some more interesting Facts on BT ...

Quoted from the man himself ... again ...

"I'll take a waveform and cut and place notes right on beat and stretch the note to get to the next note right on the following downbeat. I do this on every 16th note on every bar, on every track, on every song, and have been done for the last five years" ...

Jesus Christ ...

also Audio is more proficient than MIDI ... MIDI at the least possible instant is 100ms off from the corrected timeclock ... scientifically proven . Look it up .

and yes. penis does go in the vagina .

Very Intresting indeed.. I do agree though.. BT is very anal about time correcting his music and it does sound dynamic and you can tell the difference on some occasions.

Another intresting fact about BT's production : While working on the track "Blue Skies" with Tori Amos.. the phrase Blue Skies in song "sung" by Tori was actually never sung by her. BT put the whole "Blue Skies" phrase together from bits and peices of Tori's words and phrases. Crazy stuff.

Posted by GreenLight on Oct-11-2005 08:49:

JESUS CHRIST !!! you mean to tell me she never sung that ? holy crap BT is crazy nice ...

BT is a freak alright

OK, heres some facts about Above and Beyond.

Apparently the track Satellite was written by Paavo when his wife was working overseas in Japan. Satellite is also being used by the Spanish education board as an aid to teach school kids english. They get a cd with a bootleg version of it and a book with the words to read....

No One on Earth was written by Zoe Johnston and is about a woman who is abducted by aliens and ends up falling in love with one of them. Makes perfect sense when you listen to the lyrics.

The most extravagant thing James Zabiela has treated himself to are his Daleks. The blue one's called Del Boy and the black one's called JA Rule. He parks them in his car space as he doesn't have a car.

...

Sasha came up with the name, Airdrawndagger, from a reference from Shakespeare found on the internet. It's about a reocurring dream that a character keeps having that haunts him.

Now, on the internet, knowledge = deluded concepts of grandeur and owning a gigantic web penis

Paul van Dyk met his future wife Natascha for the first time @ loveparade 1993 and suddenly fell in love with her. He was so impressed, that in the next days after loveparade he wrote a special track in dedication to that girl. He put all his emotions and feelings into that track, what became probably his most intimate production ever.

That little song was released on his album 45 RPM under the name "For An Angel", re-released in 1998 with the massive E-Werk Club Mix, and became on of the biggest club-hits ever...

Love is stronger than everything...

Mark Spoon was a chef before he went on to become dj and I heard he was pretty damn good.
and the guitar in Jam & Spoon - Right in the night is actually played by Jam El Mar himself. Freggin nice =)

DJ Taucher was a profesional tank driver in the army before he started DJing.

oh The Digital Blonde produced with an old Atari with 4 mb ram just until last year when he bought himself a new Apple.

In it's first week of sale, The Prodigy's "Fat of the Land" outsold the rest of the UK Top 20 albums combined.

Pink Floyd pioneered techno.... with the track, "Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict", from the album, "Umugumma"... Although no bass or kick drum are present, the track is a series of recorded human voices, sped up and slowed down and cut and pasted together on analoug tape to create loop like effects.... Pink Floyd later re-visited the concept with the track, "On the Run", from ,"Darkside of the Moon", only this time, using synthesizers to create audio "samples"......

After the highly anticipated female singer for his album "Colorz" did simply not arrive at the studio in time, Kid Alex himself did all the vocals with his funny voice imitating an indian taxi driver in new york... This way, he became well-known for his crazy tracks, and he was eventually able to found a live band with him as a singer because his voice was so unique... Unexpected success, really

a bit off topic but pretty cool:

in the movie The Shindlers List during the quiet scenes the director didn't like the completely silent parts. he thought it sounded too stale so he asked 10 persons to enter a small room and just stand completely still and silent for a couple of minutes. an audio engineer recorded that silence and used it as background sound for those scenes instead. the silence became much more "alive" suddenly.

Posted by RebeL9 on Oct-11-2005 22:52:

funny shit:
Marco V used to work with repairing fitness equipment.

John 00 Fleming almost got in a fight with Guy Ornadel a couple of years ago. J00F wrote this somewhere on his site.
Ornadel was playing before him and when his time was out he refused to leave the decks and the audience started booing and he was really mad. And J00f wrote "i was close to do one of my jiu jitsu moves on him". haha that would have been a sight!

Pulser got his name from a dildo (this is true).

Taucher also used to dj in a diving suite (hence the german name taucher = diver).

James Holden painted all covers for his releases on Silver Planet Recordings (Solstice etc). Not only a producer but also an artist! ;D

Thats interesting... but the movie is actually called Schindler's List, because the guy's name was Oskar Schindler... There is a difference in german!

No, they didn't. First of all recorded human voices cut and pasted together aren't staples of Techno. Secondly, there were other people making music with synthesizers and using the cut-and-pasting method long before Pink Floyd. Like Can, Faust, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Kraftwerk, Parmegiani, Sala, Dockstader, and Baltan.

Actually, even Paul van Dyk got quite aggressive one time... When he was playing his millennium gig at new year's eve 2000, one guy climbed up the stage decoration exactly in that moment paul was playing his unique remix of robbie williams - millennium around 12 o'clock... So the music had to be stopped and the lights turned on to prevent that guy fall to death... Paul got so angry about that guy ruining his set that he slapped him in his face really hard when security personnel brought him down again from his climbing trip... That was a so cool action everyone was speaking about it at that time

Ok, you're entitled to an opinion, but please notice that I said "pioneered", NOT invented...The names that you mentioned never reached the commercial success or influence that PF reached. Using human voices at varying speeds to create layered rhythm is NOT a STAPLE, but definately a pattern that techno follows.. taking a variety of sounds and layering them at different speeds with no particular defining melody, is a type of techno....Also, I did NOT say that PF were the first band to use the cut and paste method in music...this method is a staple of the early classic rock era... listen dude, basically, these guys WERE studio pioneers using techniques that paved the way for New Wave and Synth band producers in the 80s and the eventual onslaught of EDM producers... They weren't the only ones, but the ones that I chose to discuss here. Please, tell us more facts of the artists you speak of..... that's what this thread is about
