Whats your secret weapon?

This board has been pretty sparse on the pointless banter of late, so I though I might try to start some drivel.

So whats the one thing in your sonic arsenal that you do better than anything else? Got a signature sound or a particular sample that works a treat every time? A certian patch or synth that you use a lot?

I know producers arn't particularly good at talking themsleves up, but lets allow ourselves a little ego indulgence here for all our hard work. Cmon, give it up

Might be a good way to learn how other producers think too...

(note: ...supersaws dont count)

I'll start off...

In all of my tracks I try to squeeze in a talking synth. Just a synth patch of somesort that sounds like a vowel... usually an aah or ooh sound of some sort usually using formant filters or FM. Sometimes it doesnt quite come out like that in the final master but its just this thing I try to do. =)

i can do ambiant soundscapes pretty well.

other than that, i can mix shizzle good, but that's what i do at work too.

my compositional skills are teh sux.

great thread! i'm best at eq'ing lower sounds. my kicks are always top notch and my basslines PRRRRRRRRRRR

i know some people on this forum who are just CHOPAHOLIC's. and its amaizng to watch.

Anything I touch turns into gold biatch...

Alright maybe not.. But I think my ability to screw with audio in different ways and incorporate them into my tracks is a plus for me. That and I tend to create "kick-arse arps" (so I've been told).

people have said in the past that my synth work is great

i still dunno what this means

Posted by Invertika on Oct-13-2005 08:41:

I'm REALLY REALLY good at endlessly tweaking a sound and ending up with it sounding so minutely different to the original i shouldnt have bothered.

Other than that, i reckon designing custom/unique sounds

Strings!

Violas pwns0rz your box0rs!

Also I'm good att working with drumloops and tweaking the shiznitz out of 'em. I'm a "chopoholic". Not just drums though, love taking an improvised "thing" (recording street musicians, preferably violinists ;D) and turn it all into a melody.

I put a reverse clap in every single track I do
that, and I'm really good at making really small edits and glitchiness with an audio clip I want to manipulate. if I know exactly what I want in terms of timing and sound, I can usually get there pretty quickly with a little bit of tweaking

Posted by BshidoHEAT on Oct-13-2005 14:37:

I guess I'm good at the bubbly bassline. Har...

Posted by DigiNut on Oct-13-2005 14:40:

I like to think I can do many things well, but based on the feedback I've gotten from various tracks, what seems to stand out the most is the audio editing and creative FX. Right now I'm trying to get the hang of FM synthesis and Reaktor to create even cooler effects.

Oh, and basslines too. A lot of the trance producers don't work hard enough on their basslines. When I go out, I like to dance, so I like me some bass.

Nice topic!

I think my trademark are sick FM/AM synths. They are great especially in psy to fill the extra gap between melodies, bass and percussion, plus they can add a lot of "cybernetic" atmosphere
Here's an example of what I am talking about : http://www.cybernetika.de/brainwash.mp3

I think I'm good at seeing the potential behind obscure, often very abstract sounding samples, aka the samples in the soundbanks that everyone walks right by, and then mixing them into tracks to unleash the potential

my secret weapon is a secret!

reverbs on every clap/snare i use

2-layer kicks, delay on each hat to make it more fuller, 2 rev crashes (1 playing a few keys higher then the other)

I don't have a secret weapon/trademark sound yet.

Posted by TranceReality on Oct-14-2005 00:15:

I am yet to create a unique signiture sound.....but drumloops, basslines, breakdowns and wind-ups are my ultimate forte.

Hey. My secret weapon... Thats a really tough call. That would have to be my use of effects and use of subtletes in tracks. It helps a lot to know what is out there and what isnt. It helps even more if you can create things that arent easily done or almost impossible to recreate. These are the things that create a unique track.

Cheers,
Zac
