Armin in SD Review
Simply AMAZING!
I am still alive after 4hrs of sleep
More to come later!
NO SLEEP... ZOMBIE NATION
:inserts Insomniac track for DJ FADED:
I'm an hour late for work. I'm dead tired. My assistant called in sick. I haven't had my coffee.
... But.. it was all worth it!
I woke up an hour ago. Just made it to work. Ahhh, the sacrifices we make.

good overall night. got there early, and didn't have to wait in line, which was awesome. saw a few TA's, kris, michelle. kris, nice to get a proper introduction.
desiree - best go go dancer i've seen in years. you really get the crowd going, i don't how you aren't booked for every show
jenna - i thought we had you scared stiff when you came over. next time i have someone meet up with us i know how to dick with them real bad.
armin played:
that unknown matthew dekay track that everyone is going nuts about
edit: oh yeah, he played some remix of so serene... Mark Otten - So Serene (Menno de Jong's Heading South club mix). wasn't a fan
need more, home in bed sick and need to atleast relive from you guys that went! pleassssssseeeeee.
okay, i know more when you guys recover. i'm sure it was amazing. glad you guys got to go, now give it up!
Okay, I have a few mins so I'll post a quickie review. I had a blast. My first time at On Broadway and I immediately liked the place when I got in there - great ambiance. Boris was playing but it was like 9:30 when I got on and there were 2 people on the dance floor, but they were steadily filtering in. Not a bad set from what I remember. Armin came on around 11:15-11:30ish or so. Immediately everyone smashes to the front. I was in the very front and center and I have to say it was an awesome experience being in such an intimate setting -- I was maybe standing 5 feet in front of him watching him play. The sound actually sucked up there - every time he switched off the monitors it was really quiet... I think most of the music I was hearing was coming from those speakers lol. It was a bit crunched up there, especially because of the RUDE GIRLS THAT TRY TO SMASH IN TO A SPACE IN FRONT OF YOU THAT'S ACTUALLY 1/3 THE SIZE OF THEIR BODY. Other than that I had no qualms.
I stayed in the front for about an hour before I was feeling claustrophobic and went a bit farther back; upon doing so I was assaulted with booming bass! Almost reminded me of Avalon. Went back up to the front and stayed there til around 1:45 when he stopped.
Summary -
Cool setting, a little pushy but manageable (unlike PvD @ The Mayan).
Armin rocked it, kept the energy high.
On Broadway makes big (weak) drinks.
I had a blast.
Don't ask me to ID any tracks, I don't know the names.
Well, he did play New Order - Confusion ("the Blade song") towards the end and the crowd went wild as usual. I'm pretty sure I remember hearing Shiver in there somewhere too.
Edit: Oh yeah, almost forgot. Met some new cool-ass TA's and saw some cool-ass old ones too
Had a great time. Good scene with it being a special event.
Got down there just after 10 PM. Had to wait in the general admission line with our presale vouchers - it looked like a lot of people did presale. The line went kind of slow, which was annoying when you knew there weren't many people inside. That was one of the things my buddy says he hates about On Broadway - they let you in slow because they want there to be a big line outside so people will notice and think something's going on.
When we got in it was maybe half-full, so we walked around and checked out all the rooms that weren't being used. Cool place but I can see how it would suck if it was really crowded. My same friend said it's taken him 20 minutes to get down the stairs before, so he was stoked about the size of the crowd. It turned out to be just right. Once everyone was in, the smallish dance floor was jammed but once you got off the floor, there was lots of room to get around and get your drinks fast, and plenty of places to sit down if you wanted to take a break.
As someone else mentioned, Armin came on kind of early, maybe around 11:15?
Loved the Shiver remix, he also played some U2 -Where the Streets Have no Name and Police- Message in a Bottle. He played Zocalo early on, and at least one other Shiver track, and umm, I dunno, my memory isn't so good.
The crowd was there for Armin for sure, a huge percentage of the people knew the music and the words. I saw a few boyfriends in the back that were bummin' their girls out by not wanting to do anything but sit like a slug. lol
The giant video wall was kind of cool, but there was a giant sub in there that just destroyed you if you got too close to it. I found myself also trying to find spots on the dance floor where you could hear the song itself.
They turned the lights up around 1:35 and shut the music down around 1:45 AM.
I recognized Sweetcandy but never got a chance to say hi. Didn't know what the rest of you all looked like... so so much for that. I probably bumped into a half dozen of you.
Question related to earlier comment. There were 2 go go dancers, but one clearly stood out from the other as not only an incredibly great dancer, but truly seemed to be really loving the event, not just "doing a job." Was that Desiree? Her energy level was so off the chart she was really fun to watch!
As far as work, well, was in bright and early. I'm doing surprisingly well. I think I've been conditioned by my kids to get by without much sleep.
Thursday night shows are tough. October 15 is the deadline for the two extension tax filers and Ive been busy all day.
Great night and lots of fun. Took a cab from the house to the club and I just learned that you can drink in a cab. We all were sipping on silver bullets the way there.
Terrific vibe all night. I liked the new dj setup that is up close and personal. I was fortunate to be standing right next to Armin for quite a bit of the night. Armin looked like he was really enjoying himself. I know I was. To say he had the crowd in the palm of his hand is an understatement. If you wanted a night of beautiful music you got it.
Much props to Brian and Paul for throwing yet another great event. You both deserve much credit.
And thanks to the LA TA's who made the trip down. Enjoyed meeting many of you and look forward to seeing you all again.
Back to the paperwork. Ug.

Full Review with pics to come later today...
Hey all im new to the TA forums.
I've known about TA for years but never posted only read.
I was their last night, I was hoping to meet up with all of you but it takes 24-48 hours for the admins to activate my account so i couldnt post! Oh well next time.
I got there around 9:30-9:40ish and the line wasnt long at all walked right up to will-call.
When I came in I was surprised to see the place was pretty empty.
But that changed within 40min and it was packed.
Armin came on about 11:10, after meet & greet with the VIP's.
I was center up front one row back from the rail.
I have to agree that I was getting kinda pissed at all the girls that would cram in and push their way to the front, I got 2 glasses of wine and a beer split on me. But I was hot and it cooled me off so no worries. haha
Armin's set was EPIC in intensity, and he really seemed to be enjoying the crowd last night. I think he was really happy to see the turn out. The energy in the club was the highest I've seen at any mix set in SD. More then PVD last year, more then Oakenfold, way more then Tiesto @ Montage a few years ago.
I had never seen Armin in person before but have listened to ASOT for 3 years and have lots of recorded livesets. He DID NOT disappoint. He kept the crowd really into it. Im guessing alot of the people there were familier with him as I saw them singing along with the tracks.
Someone mentioned the brutal sub on the dance floor it was to the left of the booth just above the fx screen, i walked it front of it a few times. The dancer to the right of the stage was unbelievable!!
Did anyone else notice the club employees kept coming up to Armin trying to get him to wrap up the set? They did it 5 or 6 times and he just kept playing another track. I think he was supposed to be off by 1-1:15 but he played to 1:45.
Anyways all i can say is WOW and i cant wait for him to come back!!
There wasnt a recording made of that set by any chance? I'd love to get my hands on it if there is.
I got in around 10:30ish, thankfully to a fellow TA friend for getting me on the guest list - saving me 10 bucks and the line...started it out a little slow, but filled up fast!
He was off the hook last night!!! Such a great vibe - he was smiling non-stop, totally enjoying & pleasing the crowd...and I loved how he kept the music going as long as possible! He kept his cool & remained gracious with peeps grabbing at him left & right - for pics, signing anything & everything (i saw stuff from 20 $ bills to breasts to more normal paraphanelia), talking, and even slapping his butt (that girl just got his finger moving side to side sayin no-no back)...
The night was thoroughly enjoyable - One guy (in his "Ive been Arminized" t-shirt) let me up to the front & center (THANK YOU AGAIN!)...nothing between Armin & myself but air - perfect view for a short girl. Great to meet some of you fellow TAs, again or for the first time, even if it was pretty brief. The crowd was so into him, & yes - got pushier as the night went on. I felt both girls & guys pushing tons (and I remember this one guy in particular bein SO annoying to the girls by bein too touchy feely etc)...I just had to stand my ground - i had nowhere to go but more into the bars separating us from Armin, so not sure what they expected? I thought about moving back, but couldnt tear myself away! Put all that aside. No matter. HE WAS AWESOME....He took me on a great musical journey - changing things up to get you to this great high...again, and again! I just love the man's energy. After Nocturnal, last weekend at spundae & last night, Im officially hooked & a major fan...
My only fear is that we won't be seeing him for a long while now...???
Damn, barely 2 1/2 hours of Armin? Oy! Sounds like he didn't disappoint though, which makes for a great time anyway!
Ok homies, here are my pics from the Armin Van Buuren show last night in SD!
