Age of Empires III

Since the search doesn't work don't kill me hehe

anyone looking forward to this? They said that it's so innovating and shit but it looks just like Dawn of the Modern World to me.

the demo is wicked fun though!

I just bought Age Of Empires II a month ago. Had the demo for a while though. I suck too much to play online though, only random maps.

its a good time killer game, single player can be a bitch sometimes when you're against 6 computers

Posted by nova2wl on Oct-26-2005 06:17:

yeah its a great game-real fun to play...but i dont think anything can beat AoE 2 though.

Posted by nils on Oct-26-2005 12:20:

i played it for like 40 min, then i deleted it. nice graphics but OMG so bad gameplay. i'm a big (or more like huge) fan of aoe 1 and 2, but this doesn't even come close. it's more of an arcade game. for someone who's never played the earlier games in the series, it might be a pretty fun game, but i found it very very boring.
i really can't say why i feel this way about it. i guess it's all the small, undescribeable details of the previous games that are missing in this one that bothers me, or perhaps i just don't like the new direction that aoe3 is heading for.
anyways, i didn't feel much for it. give the demo a go and have your own oppinion about it. i wouldn't buy it

edit: it might have been the even more substantial lack of realism? i really don't know, and i'm kinda sad that i feel this way, because i had tremendous expectations

Age of Empires sucks I can't believe anybody would buy such a crappy game. You want a decent game than get rise of nations.

Its kinda sad though. Nice graphics but the gameplay isn't the same anymore.

Posted by J.L. on Oct-28-2005 04:26:

meh... it kept me interested for about a full week... but now after beating the single player, it just feels like the generic Age of Empires, Empire earth, Rise of Nation, etc... type game with nothing really exciting about it...

So is it bad , good , what?
I am thinking of not buying this because the reviews here are not good and I started saving money for Kindgom Hearts 2...

surely because that is not too far from what I have lol

Anyways, I got this game about a week ago and have been playing it but not as much as I would other AoE games. First off, for those of you played Dawn of the Modern world or Rome: Total War then you are familiar with the zoom option to zoom in onto your map and soldiers and stuff like that. For some stupid reason, AoE III can barely do that and it doesn't zoom close enough to have a nice look at a charging cavalry or anything breath takign like that.

Then we can go into graphics. Some of the graphics look beautiful but some look very old and plain and you could have a hard time believing you're playing a third installment of AoE especially near the end of 2005 since it lacks in graphics compared to alot of strategy games that may have came out over a year ago. Don't get me wrong, the scenery in the game is beautiful, the water looks simply amazing, the buildings you destroy fall apart realisticly, but it's just some aspects of it that makes it a bit lackluster.

What set AoE apart back in the day was the amazing Campaigns menu. Where you can play many different civilizations and follow a story of great warriors and conquerers. Nevermind that. Now you play one family tree, with a hero from different times. So you progress throughout the ages by going from great grandfather to grandson to grand daughter. It's not as bad as first because you even change what civilization you're from for whatever reasons every chapter when you go ahead into the future to the next generation. Doing this however, requires you to take some time to learn the units and stuff like that all over again.

The home city option is a kick ass tool at your disposal. It sens you shipments every certain ammount of time, to help your "colony" or "settlement" or "base" out. Stuff, like gold barells, food, setllers, soldiers, cannons, etc could be transported to you and you get to customize what you can send and when and all that.

Overall, definatly a worthwhile game that you'll definatly enjoy. Much different from the other AoE games but easy to get used to and definatly fun to play
