Gating Vocals
I guess I'll take advantage of the fact that the SEARCH is closed by asking what's been asked probably a million times already.
That chopped up sound when vocals are gated is done by what program? Is there a way to do this without side-chaining? Is there a vst/dxi that can do this easily? I was hoping to do it in OrangeVocoder somehow, cuz I want a specific drum beat/pattern to be the modulator and the vocal to be the carrier.
EDIT: Here is a clip of something like the effect I want (pardon the cheesy example I have NO IDEA where that came from!! LOL
Gated Vocal effect
Thx
Any MIDI gate/trance gate should do fine. Side chaining has nothing at all to do with it.
If you're trying to do stutter effects then that's another story, there is no magic program to do that, it's done with a wide array of tools and a whole lot of practice.
A simple way to do gating effects if you have cubase is with the midi gate, in the dynamics plugins. Makes gating simple as ABC lol
just to riddle this thread with canadian flags even more......lol
a popular gating program being used these days is

and it's free =]
Thanks Phantax! I'll check that one out.
Anyone else? I've just added an example clip of ...well... its the effect at least I want...sorry for the terrible cheez!
I just recently bought Camelspace and that program is AMAZING. The gating on that program is ridiculous. I believe you can go up to 1/128th for gating instead of 1/32nd or 1/64th. It's a sweet program check out the demo.

I just bought that too, along with CamelPhat3 during the group buy. Got em both for like $113 ...way too cheap, eh!? LOL Anyways..I'll try that...I never even thought of Camel for that!
OMG!! CAMELSPACE ROCKS FOR THIS PURPOSE!! THANKS MAN!!
FL Studio's built-in sampler has a possibility of a really fast lfo on the volume amplitude (with a choice of sine, triangle, square shape). This last one can generate a similar effect I think.
Though making a specific 'rhythm' isn't possible...
thanks Icone, still a bit green with all this stuff, but what I've found is this SKIDDER vst plugin which is free and quite good, especially as a synth as opposed to an effect. That way you CAN use midi to trigger the carrier (audio clip).
I think I'm gonna go with the CAMELSPACE plugin however. I just love how cool this is and it has the extras like flanging and reverb and combing filters already at your fingertips too. You just have to make your own gate pattern and yer laughin'!
Thanks fellas!
