promotors, if you're going to bring a world-class dj to atlanta on a wednesday night!
Ive been giving this a lot of thought recently. Mainly because I was up until 8am (giggity giggity
) last Wednesday night/Thursday morning wholly because of the presence of a certain Armin Van Buuren.
Why do the promotors in this town treat Wednesday night like its any other Saturday? Its freakin Wednesday!!! You can't treat a Wednesday like a Saturday because circumstances are different. I bet 90% of the people in that club with wristbands on all had to go to work in the morning. I wonder how many people who were 21 (aka, those who would buy alcohol at the club making it a shit-ton of money) stayed home that wednesday simply because they couldn't afford to/would get fired if they went out until 3 in the morning in the middle of the workweek. Worse yet, I wonder how many people didn't drink very much because it was Wednesday and they had work in the morning?
My question to you promotors out there, why are Wednesdays not treated accordingly? I'm just curious as to whether the club would stand to make more money if the doors opened earlier and closed earlier. People who don't have anything to do will come anyways, and people who can't stay up all night will also be able to come. The way i see it, if you can maximize your time window to allow the maximum number of people who are over 21 to come to the club on wednesday, you stand to make A LOT MORE MONEY. And make people who do have jobs (moi), a lot happier in the process. Besides, there isn't a law mandating that clubs stay open until 3am.
I see earlier Wednesday night events as a win-win-win for club, promotor, and party-goer.
Thoughts? Rebuttals?
good point
but the fact is, a club won't fill-up until 12am or 3 to 4 hrs b4 they close......thats pretty much anyday, anywhere in US (no matter u have a job or not, 21+ or not)
I raised this point in the PVD thread for November.... I think that if the promoters advertise, from the beginning, that the headliner will go on @ precisely 9:30 or 10 and the club will CLOSE @ 12, then people will come out... I mean, the majority of people are not going out because they want to stay out until 3:30, they're going out because they want to see PVD, AVB or whoever is headlining... So, the whole point here is to NOT give people the option.. simply say, the club will close @ precisely 12:00....
I suspect that the reason for these weekday sets is because the headliners are cheaper than on weekend days, but it kinda sucks, because for PVD, or AVB, or Sasha, the club is going to sell a capacity crowd, regardless of day... Plus, the 18+ crowd gets to bank in...
My solution to this problem is to start bringing in serious headliners to a venue, OTHER than a club... The Abbey is being used quite heavily these days to throw Circuit parties... Also, there's the old Nike Pavillion and not to mention, the NATC. I would love to see pvd or sasha or someone, spinning EPIC parties @ these venues, where all ages, from 18+ can attend... that way, you have more space... PLUS, the promoter can sell more tickets and still turn a nice profit...Again, I suspect this is how things would turn out, or I might just be talking out of my ass...lol
I dunno.. these are just my ideas... I wanted to see AVB so bad, but I had an early morning committment... plus, I"m most likely going to have to miss PVD this next time around
i wiould like for pvd to play a 25 minute set. seriously who still likes pvd besides mikey mike?
and ...................... scott

| Originally posted by Sydag5 Yes exactly. So on a Wednesday night one of your favorite DJs comes to town, I say, suck it up. And if you tried to make it so the headliner come on at 9:30 or 10:00, I would be one of those pushing for him to stay on unitl 3am anyways. |

Drunk people + the slope of the stairs at the Tabby =
Lawsuit
No place to dance + PVD =
Shit ass time
Cost of booking the Tabby + Cost of paying PVD =
Cover that is too expensive
Unknow back room of Compound + Big Name DJs =
Better Idea
The same post about this that was made the last time a big DJ came on Wednesday + No change to the policy in the future =
Waste of space on the forum

Some of the best shows in my life were at Mirages events at the Tabby! Its a great venue and I miss the hell out of those sunrise sessions walking out at 7am, thinking about how awesome the night was there...
Oh the old days...

| Originally posted by Liquified But if we could do the tabby with for instance, PVD and Another headliner (live act maybe)in the main room, then use the cotton club with 3 DnB headliners as well as locals and then use the upstairs for more of a regional room, have say 4-5 headliners total in the building and then have another 10 locals and regionals you could have a massive on your hands in Atlanta again. For a show like that it would probably be priced at $30 and $35 and it be a saturday night. |

| Originally posted by Liquified thats the thing about the tabby, they are under contract for tickets to be done through ticketmaster. But you can also go down to the box office and purchase tickets at the tabby and not pay the ticketmaster fee's. I've still got a few flyers from the Mirage parties...I think the same people did parties in Memphis under the name Super Fly ENT.
MY GOD, I would goto that if it was during the day on a weekday. And man o man if pvd ever came to the tabby it would be an all out heaven for me and probably compare to the times i go see him at space in miami
