I think for edm dj's then cd players will be the only means of djing but for hip hop artists/dj's then turntables will stay a little longer

Their is a vinyl preservation sociaty (something like that) ofcourse ortofon is a big part of it and im sure many other compaines that are alike will to. Sorry for sloppy post but i gtg.

i personally hate cd players for mixing hip hop or top 40 or whatever because i need to go from song to song quickly and the time it takes to load the cd and then the track you want is too much time. so yeah we need something thats exactly like a turntable but doesn't wear out after like 10 plays

but that is a lot of work . BT is crazy good. itll be hard for others to be so talented with such a program imo.

About a year ago i started using one old turntable and a laptop for mixing then about 4 months back i baught my own techs... sometimes i feel that i shoulda got cd decks or that i should have baught a midi controller.
Its too late though im addicted and the fact that people keep saying vinyl will die isnt stopping me from spending all the money i have on vinyl.

same here.. I feel I shouldve bought CDJ's instead of tech mk2's but i dont care.. Ive mixed on traktor for years and its no diff to a cdj really. I still prefer vinyl. So much more freedom and needs more skill to mix with imo.. skill=respect in my book

In my opinion.. I'd be scared of this, if it gets any momentum i'm sure people will be able to make much better programs and maybe make it more enjoyable to use. It's definitely a threat, and if something 'cool' which a lot of people get behind comes along i can see there not being enough demand to keep vinyl record producers going.

How ever for the time being i'm quite happy using vinyl But my pockets feel the pain

I love using vinyl and will continue to buy it as long as its being sold, but I doubt vinyl will even be around in 5 years. None of the big djs use it at all anymore and many record labels are only releasing stuff on mp3.

People need to get over Ableton keeping the tracks in time. Since when did beat matching = DJ skills? Beat matching is the first thing you learn when you start, it isn't an advanced skill. After beat matching you focus on mixing, track selection, reading the crowd and so on. That is where the art is. It isn't in beat matching at all. You could be a great beat matcher and still be a horrible DJ. Beat matching is just 1/10th of the equation.

And remember that not liking BT doesn't mean you can't like Live. I might not like a DJ's set but that doesn't mean the turntables are crap.

Live is a tool and it takes skill to use the tool. Think of learning Live as learning a new skill, even if it means you don't use an old one as often.

the point is, BT was demonstrating Ableton's capabilities and what he was doign was supposed to be a showcase for what the program can do. What he was doing sounded awful. I'm not even arguing that I don't like Live, because I haven't tried it and right now don't care to. Maybe I will in the future...I just hope I can better utilize it than BT.

Eh, that was to show what BT learned to do with ableton, not what the program can really do...because BT barely did jack shit with it.

i think it'd be kind of strange to be a great Live "DJ" and then when someone asks you to spin vinyl or CDs at a party, you'd be like "ehhhhhh......i don't know how....where's my laptop?".
