Ngaahhhh! God no! Stay away from these, they are terrible. You should be looking at Technics, and if you really can't afford these then have a look at the Gemini PT-2100.

Posted by Flash Bastard on Dec-27-2001 08:46:

what is wrong with the dexs ? i mean i am wanna start d'-ing ( so i don't wanna spend yet alot of money ....when i am start to getting better i can buy some more fancyr stuff ....some one told me learn to mix on bad dexs so it will easyer with good one's

Posted by DJ Darchinova on Dec-27-2001 10:35:

Obviously the XL-500's are the decks which you can afford, the PT-2100's would cost some $$ more but ther are worth it..

Numark have similar priced direct decks for around the same price for the XL-500's.. but from what i've heard, the cheaper Numark decks arent as good as the Gemini's

There are also the Stanton STR8-50's which have straight arms for mainly scracthing (which i dont think you are looking for) but they do provide better quality than the Gemini's for a slightly lower price than the XL-500's

i have the gemini XL-500 II they are O.K. but the engine is very weak......

i worked a lot with the vestax and their engine is very strong.....

Posted by Flash Bastard on Dec-27-2001 18:31:

how do you mean weak ... are the going to be broken very fast or is it something else ?

Posted by boy_luke_y2k on Dec-27-2001 19:05:

Cool

They will probably be belt driven dex which are greatly hindered compared to direct drive dex.

Posted by djlenny on Dec-27-2001 20:30:

Read This!

Keep away from Belt Drive's..They will drive you Bonka's in the long run and you will have a real low learning curve.
Try hiring a set of 1200's and you will want them

Posted by Flash Bastard on Dec-27-2001 20:55:

yeah i know belt drive is not good

what about the Gemini XL - 200 ?

Posted by Viceroy on Dec-27-2001 23:57:

Whatever you need to do to get tech1200's do it. I know they are expensive...but they are the only decks you want to learn/use/whatever. There is a reason why they are the only decks used in every club in the world.

They are worth it.

Peace,
Steve

Posted by DJ Darchinova on Dec-28-2001 05:21:

The XL-500's arent belt driven.. they are direct.. the motor is weak because its one of the cheapest directs on the market.
The Stanton STR8-50's would have a higher torque motor.

And once and for all, yeah Technic's 1200's are the best, but this guy's budget doesnt stretch that far

Posted by Flash Bastard on Dec-28-2001 10:02:

Ok ok ..so the gemini xl - 500 are not good but either not bad

and what about the mixer Numark DM 3002 Mixer ?

what i ment is that the engine is not strong when i am back cueing
i take all the plate back and forward not only the slipmat
and the XL-500II is a beltdrive turntable.....

but i think that almost any turntable do it....

i don't mean the VESTAX TECHNICKS DENON

Posted by Flash Bastard on Dec-28-2001 13:55:

XL-500II is belt drive ?

well i was going to the gemini website .. and there it was a direct drive

Posted by DJ Darchinova on Dec-28-2001 14:08:

The The XL-500's are DIRECT drive
i dont know which one u got but the XL-500's arent belt

Denons arent worth their money either

Your equipment sounds fine, I've got PT 1000's and they mix fine. Dunno about the Numark mixer, I don't really trust that company, I've got a gemini mixer. So long as it can fade and cut/lower frequencies, you should be okay.
Remember, your mixing skills and vinyl are infinitely more important than your equipment (so long as the equipment works)! Work on building your vinyl collection and honing your mixing skills. Your equipment is only going to change if you start mixing at clubs and the like, so don't be too concerned with it.

Posted by Flash Bastard on Dec-28-2001 20:29:

Well i have made a dission i will buy them .. i mean if there suck i will sell them to some one else ...

I have the Numark DM3002X mixer and i would recommend choosing something else. The sound quality is very poor. I love all the functions it has, but when i hear hissing and popping sounds when i use certain features, it pisses me off to think i wasted my money on this thing. Also, the output for the record out is WAY weaker then the output for the main out. Go for the vestax 175, or the stanton RM3.

As far as the decks go, pick up some Numark TT-100. I have used these and as long as you get some real slippery slip mats they work very well. They are good beginner decks for around $200 U.S.

Posted by Fast Turtle on Dec-28-2001 23:19:

I do not recommend Numark turntables. They seem to have a pretty bad reputation from every DJ I've met. For beginner turntables, go with Gemini.

Agreed. The only turntables worse than Numark ones are those made by SoundLab. Now they are some really abysmal decks!

Don't immediatley rule out Numark mixers though. They have a bad reputation that they don't deserve. They give excellent value for money - obviously they are budget mixers, and I'm not saying they are better than Vestax mixers or anything, but for the price they are certainly better than comparably priced Gemini mixers.

Posted by DJ Darchinova on Dec-29-2001 04:02:

Yeah.. as i said before.. Numark TT's are crap..
Get the XL-500's

Don't get the Numark DM3002X.. it is a piece of crap.. seriously
The only decent Numark mixers are the ones with Korg Kaoss pads

The Stanton SK-RM3 would be good for starters.. its HEAPS better than the Numark and about the same price:
http://www.123dj.com/mixers/stanton/skrm3.html

Or you might look towards the Gemini series if you want something cheap with more features.. but i'd stick with the Stanton
