apple and reason 3.0 - advice needed

guys, I need some advice which apple laptop should I get to make music using reason 3.0 and edirol keyboard.
I used to play with PC's so far but noticed a lot of people uses iBooks and Powerbooks to make and mix music with.
are there any major differences in sound quality, work efficiency or any others?
and my main question is what processor speed and how much memory should I have in it (or maybe some other requirements) to work in reason 3.0 with midi keyboard with reasonable efficiency? do they have various sound cards too?

it's kind of hard to imagine how fast might be for example G4 1,33 MHz processor because if it was P4 it wouldn't be too fast (it's hard to switch from PCs to Mac but I'm decided to do it)

thanx in advance

Mac laptops are very nice indeed. I use both PC's and Mac's, and coming from the Unix side of things (I'm a software engineer) I definately prefer OS X over Windows XP (no flame wars, please).

As for iBook vs. Powerbook... the Powerbook does have a faster memory bus, a better video card, and an audio input along with a few other nice features.

That being said... the current iBooks are NEARLY as powerful as the powerbooks at half the price. You will likely get an external audio interface (such as an M-audio audiophile firewire, which I use with my iBook), so the audio quality will be the same on either machine.

As far as processor speed, I'm running Reason 3.0 on a Mac mini (1.42 Ghz), and it's surprisingly snappy! I have 1gig of RAM in the machine. Now granted faster is always better, but if you are just starting out then any current iBook is fast enough to get the job done.

I used to run a midi sequencer on a 25Mhz 486 laptop running Windows 3.1!

Why on earth would you want to get a Mac just to use Reason, when you've already got a comparable PC?

I've got nothing against Macs, they are great for media production; if you wanted to switch to Logic or DP or had a bunch of AU plugins you wanted to start using, then I could understand that, but in this case you're just throwing away money. Spend it on an effect box or a rack synth instead.

Short answer; Macs are just better
Look at it this way, a Mac is like BMW and a PC is like Geo, they both do the same thing, right? however BMWs just happened to be better than Geos

Get yourself a Mac... Go with the PowerBook (BMW-M5)!
