The difference between Goa and Psy Trance
Just curious on what the difference is. Never had a clear definition.

I always thought there was no difference........maybe someone will explain it to me.
goa has sturcturue similar to most trance, and is centered around the lead synth(s).. psy on the other hand is centralized on vairious fxs bleeps etc and really deosnt have any melody
randummboy: I think that's just some people's opinion...
The reality is that originally this style of trance was called Goa Trance since it developed at parties on the beaches of the Goa Province of India. However, over the years, less and less of the development of this genre has been based in Goa, so some people preffered to call it Psychedelic Trance. So now, Psy Trance is the preffered name for the whole genre... So really there is no difference. However SOME people seem to refer to the older more melodic tracks as Goa Trance and the newer melody-less tracks as Psy Trance, but really it's ALL just Psy Trance (the preffered name). I think some people in the industry are slowly trying to phase out the name Goa Trance, since it really has nothing to do with Goa, India anymore.

Hmmm...Very interesting. Thanks for that history lesson

umm...my advice, ask Skywarp...he spins goa/psy trance from what I recall.......
but I might be wrong
Take it from me: There is NO difference between the sounds of GOa and Psy Trance...just different name for the same genre.

X-Dream - Psychomachine
Yea..i've heard goa and psy-trance being used interchangeably, both referring to the same type of music. But there might be a few minor differences...i don't know!

| IF you agree on the in fact NOT existing classification which says that goa ss the more melodic old school trance and psy is the new minimalistic sound then there are still HUGE differences between psychomachine and tracks from Son Kite or KoxBox(THAT! is minimalistic) Moreover Infected Mushroom is impossibly psy trance (considering that it stands for minimalistics again). Infected are a special case, they got their own style..try to listen to The Gathering and then to Tasty Mushroom. Ones fullly melodic and pumping the others subtle and more complex id say |
well lets not fight about this..who CARES anyway?
