Jester A Feast For Crows

*Puts nerd hat on*
On a completely unrelated topic to music, but one that is very important to me. The book I have been waiting for over three years to be published has finally been released. If any of you likes fantasy I would strongly recommend this series. The series is called 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and the first book is called 'Game of Thrones'. If you have read Lord Of The Rings and were impressed by the scope and scale, you need to read these books.

Anyway, once again sorry for the complete lack of relevance to TA but I am just so happy that this has finally come out, that I needed to share it with everybody.

*Chucks nerd hat in the air, and begins to dance with joy*

fvcking word teflon!!!!!!!!!!!!

i havent read the fire n ice series, but a friend of mine loves them and what ive heard makes it sound as if it shits all over LOTR (overated imo) and is adult fantasy at its best. if only i wasnt so lazy...........

haha.

Actually how does the title of the thread relate to what the guy is talking about in the first place?

**PS no skinflute remarks...

sorry about that i should have made it clearer, it ended up being a bit of a put two and two together message but oh well.

okay well i give respect to LOTR because it was the beginning of fantasy and so forth but i find that tolkien waffles and spends two pages describing the flowers in a meadow. he is also pretty predictable, george r. r. martin is in no uncertain terms a heartless bastard that is completely unpredictable and uncaring for any of his characters. also the style in which the books are written is like nothing i have ever read before. each chapter is written from a different characters perspective so you get some really interesting insights into the storyline and the scope and detail of his setting in immense.

long story short, stop being lazy and read these books if you are into fantasty.

Posted by Teflon_Teapot on Oct-21-2005 01:56:

whoops there i go again ranting and raving without actually answering the question. so here goes the title of the new book is "A Feast For Crows", and it is the fourth book in the series which is why is mentioned the series and the first book because it would be unwise to pick up the fourth book and start reading it.

omg, so fvcking true. maximum respect to tolkien for what he achieved, but those books had far too many moments like this. yeah, ok. the tree is green, i get it. move the fvck on. *yawns*

yeah, thats what my friend told me. so in those life (or character) threatening situations, its 10x better coz youre really not sure whether theyre going gonna make it or not. imo thats really important.

pretty much, but it is not really a typical fantasy book it much more political in its storyline, so alot of the moves that are made are completely unpredictable and utterly ruthless. they leave you scratching your head going, how did that just happen.

oh please. he is the embodiment of everything that the DL series is about. he's complicated, torn, and ultimately more human and realistic than any fantasy character ive ever encountered. plus he was ridiculously fvcking tough and thats just cool

the "low" (*sniffle sniffle* ) shit he did just added depth to his psyche and made him more interesting than some f'n kender that just wanted ot be "wished" into a pond

hahahahaha
one part i remember is when he takes his nephew into the "other realm" or whatever, i cant remember what its called, and he goes "my boy, you will need robes much darker than those if you are to accompany me..." or something, i thought it was kinda cool anyways

do not underestimate the power of rabbitslayer!!!

Posted by Teflon_Teapot on Oct-25-2005 05:31:

i just finished reading a feast for crows. my god some of the characters are the most traiterous, manipulative, conniving, backstabbing, vile creatures and i loved every minute of it. once again george r. r. martin managed to do things that i did not expect at all.

i liked it when he murdered tas' gnome friend, when he left crysania in the abyss to die, when he left his brother and friends to die, when he destroyed the world, when he burnt holes in his apprentice's body. hehe. raistlin's even cooler than vader

respect.

good to hear teapot!! its always good when a writer delivers on the promise they make at the start of a series. glad you enjoyed it. wouldnt wanna experience something on par with the phantom menace for instance

Posted by davidvonhauser on Oct-31-2005 02:17:

I've been a bit of a lurker here for some time, but being the fantasy lover that I am this post made me actually get around to registering an acount haha.

I've (finally) finished english for good (totally owned the exam if I do say so myself) and AT LAST I CAN READ FOR PLEASURE AGAIN! So when I read this thread I decided to check the series out for something to read during schoolies. I must say after reading the first few chapters of A Game Of Thrones I'm already hooked and I fear I'll have to go out and buy the second installment as I don't think this one will last until schoolies.

If you like this style (where chapters are from different character's points of view) you should definatly check out Julian May's series The Exiles. I think the first book is called The Many Coloured land.

Posted by Teflon_Teapot on Oct-31-2005 02:38:

sweet well i will check it out after i finish my exams. good to see you like the books after only a few chapters, you will definitely need to get the next book, it is called A Clash of King and the third book is A Storm Of Swords.

Posted by davidvonhauser on Oct-31-2005 02:42:

I can generally tell if I'm going to enjoy it early on from the style. But with this book I think it was the characters that were just so interesting right from the start. I loved the prologue. I want to go and keep reading it right now but I really should study.

Posted by Teflon_Teapot on Oct-31-2005 03:01:

yeah probably a good idea to wait until after exams otherwise once you get into the books you will not want to put them down.

Am i the only one who is shocked and appauled by that statement!? Even though you might be reading for pleasure the idea behind Schoolies is a whole different kind me thinks.

Posted by davidvonhauser on Oct-31-2005 03:53:

haha, I mean on the beach. during the day. when I'm hungover.
