James Holden is not a human being *REVIEW*
He is an alien from another galaxy!
WOW!!!! Why did he only play for 2 hours? His set was so amazing, it felt like it went by in 30 minutes or less. Such sick, mind-fuck tunes. He played the Britney Spears song, but the boring remix of it. I like the remix with the highpitched/hypnotic bells. Oh well, atleast he played it. I need more Holden!!! Time to listen to that set that NeroFlash posted!!
Lavelle trainwrecked on almost every mix, but his track selection was ROCKIN!!!! I think he was wasted. He was waving a vodka bottle around to everyone. How annoying.
Me & Anna are listening to Holden's new set... wow flashbacks!!! Holden is literally a fucking genious.

posted my review on i got rapped by bass and i loved it which was started by hotdogwater and what a great title thread i might add, and yes, that was rude of avalon to cut holden's last song that way with the moving of the crowd and the black curtain!!! it was so sad to see him go and he should have spun way more than 2 hours!!!!

Interesting night to say the least, but I still managed to have an awesome time. James Lavelle was probably the worst DJ i've heard. I felt physical pain everytime he touched a record, it was disgusting.
Holden, however, was the fucking man! Ever since I listened to the first track on Balance 005, I knew this guy had to be some sort of musical genius, he seriously is out of this world. Last night he played tune after fucking tune. I nearly died when he played Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink, that song was inspired by fucking gods.
Haha, oh man. Fucking the afterhour party... What the fuck are they thinking?!
I'm pretty much over trance, nothing new anymore, it all sounds the same to me. Pure cheese imo.
Yea TECHNO and TRIPPED OUT PROG HOUSE!

Un freaken believable. Crawled into the door around 12:30 this afternoon.
Started off the night at Julia's to do a quick meet up and walked over to Spundae to watch Mikes opening set. Mike is throwing down an exclusive set by spinning with out headphones. lolol sweeeet tracks Mike, and great mixing despite the minor set back.
We all then take off to Avalon. We see a bunch of TAs front and center in the line. They must have been camped out for an hr already and yet Avalon doesnt let anyone in until another hr and a half later. Froze our asss off.
We all get in and go over and do our little TA meet up and then hit the dance floor right away. Its true that Lavelle was messing up on his mixing, but damn he did play some hot tracks though. I feel he did do a great job getting everyone ready for Holden with his track selection, but at times made everyone cringe with his trainwreaks.
Holden gets on and destroys the crowd. This is the first time I have ever seen him play and it wont be my last. Very talented young man. Just watching him up there blew my mind. So sure of himself and his abilities. Killing us all. I had such a great time dancing with everyone. I did sooo much dancing. geeeez
Then a bunch of us stuck around for the After Hours. Matt took a little to warm up and get us all going, but when he did, man oh man. He kicked ass. Great high energy trance to keep us all going. We stayed until 6:30am, then all headed over to Bobs for the after after hour power. More great mixing by Bob, Mike and Eric. Its so nice to have somewhere to go and wind down with friends and more music. Thank you for this Bob.
I want to say, thank you Sarah for being my partner in crime last night. You rock girl.
I totally forgot to post about After Hour Power. I agree with what everyone said. How could they put those lame curtains down while James is still playing, and then bring on a pure cheesey/annoying trance DJ? The crowd died down majorly right when he started.
Matt Darey's music was like this ------>
BANG
BANG
BANG
BANG
BANG
BANG!
I felt like I was in a nightmare throughout what I saw of his set. I saw Michelle, Kris, Mike and a few others were enjoying his set, and I honestly don't know how people can stand that music. Holy crap. He reminds me of Steve Crapo (Castro).
I keep forgetting I shouldn't talk shit though.... everyone has different taste in music.

already posted a review in the other thread but I might as well do another one now that i am relatively coherent
Just to reiterate what everyone else said, holden was bloody amazing!!
That was one of the best sets I've seen in a long long time. It was so weird and dark and grooving and fresh. I've been sort of tired of going out and seeing big name DJ's and hearing new and good songs but not hearing any real originality to their sound. Its been so long since I've heard a DJ and felt the huge rush I did when I heard Holden. Every track he played was amazing and the mixing was so flawless. Holden didn't just mix the songs together like a DJ he wove them together like a true musician. I was sorta weary of his mixing because I have heard some of his live sets and the mixing isn't always the best. But last night really blew my socks off. It was mixed just as well as his Balance or his Fear of a Silver Planet but all live.
I enjoyed James Lavelle's set despite his horrible mixing. he played alot of great tracks. it was kind of entertaining for me to hear him mess up all the time.
I talked to him for a sec. after his set and he was completly blitzed
i tried to ask him what remix of "in a state" he played, but it didn't seem to work out to well. He just was mumbling and slurring words together. covesation sorta went like this? "hey James I really liked that remix you played of your 'in a state' who did that remix? and he goes "ooooh UNKLE" and i say "yeah i know its one your tracks under UNKLE, but who did the remix" then he says "mhasdfammmuuuuuh I'n a state" and i keep saying "yes i know i know but who did that remix??" then he just mumbled on again incoherently and i think i made out him say moby but i'm not too sure
it was great meeting all the TA's there. Jeffree and I had a blast. but both of our bodies are completly destroyed. i'd kill to be sitting in a hot tub right now
ooooh and fuck afterhourpower!
that was so lame how they brought down the curtain and totaly closed out James Holden before his last song was over. when the security dude was pushing us all back i thought like a light was loose or something on the cieling and they were moving us all back because they were worried about it falling. then when i saw the curtain come dowin with the AHP logo i was like "blaaaaah sooo lame"
Jeff and i were out right after that. i had no desire whatsoever to hear matt darey
^^^Speaking of Moby.... Lavelle played this one song that goes "It's not you, it's the E talking". WOW, that song blew me away! Curly told me it's a Moby song.
The song is on one of the Sasha sets I have on my computer, but I don't feel like going through all of them to find it. Does anyone have that song on mp3 so they could send it to me? I'd really appreciate it!

soulwax - e talking is the only song that contains the lyrics "its not you, its the e talking." Maybe Lavelle played a new remix of it or something. theres only three that i know of, Rex The Dog/Tiga/Nite Version.
Holden played these tracks that I remember:
Mandy - Jah
Britney Spears - Breathe on Me (James Holden REmix)
Nathan Fake - Sky was pink (James Holden REmix)
and towards the end, there was a song he played that was really nutty and it made everyone go insane...i have a sound clip of it on my camera i will see if i can upload it somewhere
Soulwax - E Talking
curly is right.
sasha played it @ Pure future music festival Ice arena, Vilnius (9-9-05)
