Thumbs down Rogers - P2P - Torrents

They've blocked off all torrents downloads in my area.

There have been previous posts regarding upload throttling - what we are experiencing is NOT throttling.
Somehow it appears that any P2P program is being severely crippled or is being blocked by Rogers.
So far it appears that it is only occuring to households located in the mtnk phub (Thornhill-Richmond Hill-Markham Area) - not really sure about the exact geographical area.

I've noticed that in DC++ my downloads have slowed from 100KBps speeds to merely bytes per second in the past week.

I live in Cambridge, by the way.

For the past fucking TWO (2) MONTHS, Rogers has been actually BREAKING my connection to the net if anything much more than 1 or 2 torrents is ever being uploaded or downloaded.

Usually if I'm only getting one at a time, I get along... but if it's more, or if I start downloading alot from Soulseek (or allow users to upload from me at same time) we lose our connection.

Actually have to go to the modem, restart (or unplug) it and restart (or unplug) the router too.

After that, our connection to the Interweb is back.

Its fucking annoying as piss fuck!

I love in Collingwood, 45 mins north of Barrie.

I believe it has to do with the weather. everytime its raining outside, my area is capped, now thou i believe they installed new boxes which cut the p2p sharing.

what do people do now a days when its raining outside , they're not watching tv but surfin the net.

p2p kills their networks, so they cut that, and grandma and grandpa can surf..

i hope this is lifted by midnight tonight.

i guarantee you and swear on the universe's name that mine is NOT the weather.

there is a very clear and direct pattern ive noticed over the last 2 months which have led me to confirm that my net connection ONLY gets severed when im downloading torrent files.

is it just rogers?

i am on sympatico in cambridge and i have been getting pretty slow times on 'some' torrents.

i went from sometimes getting 700kb (about last year) and now i only get about 70kb on a good torrent. and some that 'should' work dont. such as chapelle show season 2...fairly popular torrent you would think...

wtf!?

No kidding! I mean who does Rogers think they are trying to shut me down for downloading thousands of Linux ISOs?

bazzzzzzzzing

I'm getting the same thing.

Takes me a few hours to download an episode of lost with hundreds of seeders.

Now, now, no need to get THAT serious!

Some guy the other day told me that rogers sent him a letter saying that he was using kazaa and downloading protected content and that it was bad and blah blah blah...sounds pretty invasive and shitty to me!

Do you have a linksys router?? I have the same problem, but it is not rogers that causes the problem, it is my router. It seems that once I get more than 80 connections or so it disconnects and the router resets itself. So try limiting your number of connections in your bt client.

psh, you're lucky.

I've been capped at 35 down, 12 up for a long time. And I still have pissed them off. The last two weeks have been 10 down, 4 up, what good is highspeed if you're getting crappy speeds? Why should I pay for this level of service? Why advertise unlimited high speed access if clearly they are not providing it?

only in Aurora or Oak Ridges... pffft.

And even though I just got upgraded to 6Mbps download/800Kbps upload service... and damn, the other day I ran a test on myspeed.rogers.com, and got a 5.6Mbps download! DAMN!

As far as the BT and eMule clients go... I haven't seen any drop in service. Except for the limits I've set up on those (20KB/s up/down) since I'm only a few gigs away from my monthly cap of 100GB, and there's still more than a week of usage left... shazzzzam!

Posted by VERTiG0 on Oct-24-2005 02:43:

myspeed.rogers.com gives me 2.15mbps down, 92kbps up.

Fucking PITIFUL.

Posted by arek on Oct-24-2005 02:47:

yea gives me that, but if i try to d/l its 1k!
