This is my weird attempt at taking an emo song by the band Saosin and turning it into some kind of weird progressive trance track. Let me know your thoughts.
:: puts flame suit on ::
This is the instrumental version... I'm toying with a version that has some vocals in it but I'm having trouble getting that to work the way I want it.
Hi David,
I don't know the original emo you've remixed here, but it sounds pretty sweet with a beat.
The percs need to be beefed up a little - and I'm not a huge fan of the delay on the snare.
Good effort here, but overall sounds a bit thin.
Hope you keep at it - I'd love to hear the finished product, especially with vocals.
Keep well,
Trev
Thanks for the review!
I'm kinda agreeing with you on the snare/percs. Good advice, thanks
Sounds pretty good man. I think my brother and his annoying "band" play this song all the time. I'll hafta wait till I hear some lyrics to make sure. Very nice and chill atmosphere tho. I think that delay has either gotta go or be turned down quite a bit. I LOOOOOOOOOVE the bass that comes in a little before 3:00, sounds perfect. I'd also suggest using a different piano, that ones just reaks of mdapiano.
Not bad by any means man, I'm really enjoying this. Love to hear what you do with the vocals.
good job man, and i'm in full agreement to highlight the percs a lil bit more. its really weird hearing the song mixed like this, as i'm a huge fan of this band and music of the like (in fact im going to see them in st. louis on nov 7), but you did well. If you like mixin like that you should check out thrice.net. Its another band of the same sort and they're having a remake contest for their new cds first single, "Image of the Invisible." scroll down the page some and check it out if you want, they're accepting any type of remake.
Edit: direct link to contest

I'll keep that in mind for my next production.| quote: |

i really like this. Very chilled. Sounds really Balearic, like a real Ibiza anthem. Definately impressed with this. Just like to know what software/hardware your using?
i actually think a vocal version would be cool. move the delay from the snare to the vocals and see what happens. then again i love cove reber's (the singer) voice, so i guess im mildly biased already.
great track! don't know the original but this has a lot of emo in it
and i also dont like your clap & snare, they sound to heavy imo.
And variate your perc!
good job !

It was kinda catastrophic. I think that I could do some cool layering with it though, to make it more like he's singing a "round". Something like this (since you know the original):

As someone said, the percs are kinda weak.. In a progressive track, the kick is normally much more powerful
But the guitar-melody is beautiful!! I'm liking it alot. Wow, the bassline appeared late
Hmm.. it clips..
LOVE the band...and the original song.
Nice attempt though, interesting interpretaion. The ending was really creative and original.
Here's a link to the original if anyone was wondering...Saosin - Seven Years
His vocals and emotion are the most amazing thing I've ever heard, by far surpasses any EDM vocalist
.
Yeah... mine is based off the acoustic version though. (A little different but not too much.)
I figured I'd get yelled at if I posted the original
yep, this is definitely the song my bro's band plays all the time. seriously.....ALL THE TIME. they don't quite live up to the original, it's quite a tune.
i've listened to your mix a few more times and i really enjoy it. i'd just beef up the percussion and fix the delay on that snare. i'd really like to hear what you could do with the vocals.

I'm surprised this is getting this much positive response on TA, didn't expect it at all.
Not usually a big fan of fruity loops. but the work you've done on it has impressed me. A bit more work and i'd say u could get that signed to a uk label who play all the belearic stuff. reminds of trance music in 1999.

It's working this time... I'll have a listen and post a review in your thread
sounds pretty interesting... when the strings come in it's sounding real nice... very relaxing and balaeric sounding...
the only thing i have gripes about is the percussion... the claps just isn't doing it for me... also, try to add more layering and depth to the percussion...
Otherwise, I enjoyed it quite a lot!
