starts good...
nice vocal! great bass to!
that percussion bell thing, is very nice, the melody could be with a bit more changes, thats also for the synth that starts at 2.17

GREAT SONG man!

do ya allready have a contract???

Greetz,

DJ Mantis

I know the "melody"'s aren't too imaginative...but I was stuck on this track for a while so I decided to finish it up now as it otherwise it prolly wouldn't have been finished at all

percussion bell thingy...I think you mean that 808 tom with distortion...

and the vocal...I had a guy saying the alphabet on vinyl, so I sampled all the different letters

No contracts yet anyways

still thanks for yer positive comment

Cool

Downloading now, I haven't heard any hard house for a while now

Posted by boy_luke_y2k on Dec-28-2001 19:54:

Cool

Some nice sampling there, do you have any hardware to produce this or is it all sampling, around 2:20 just reminded me of meet her at the love parade, quite a well built song, keep it up dood

Posted by Pjotr G on Dec-28-2001 20:09:

Thankies, I'll prolly make an improved version tho...lower the snair volume a tad and go easier on the reverb.

it's all hardware baby

funny you should mention meet her at the love parade....That was the sound I was trying to make when I made that patch (Roland MC-307)...actually that was another patch this one also has some frequency modulation on top of it. It's not hard to make, 2 sawtooths and you tune one of them a couple of semitones up.
The other "lead" sound is a distorted 808 tom. The bassline was made with rebirth, then sampled.

Cool

Cool, what eqpt. hav u got? I'm gonna get a jp-8000 next year hopefully
Also what did you use for the percussion, reminds me of Cosmic Gate, please if it is software share the joy

Posted by Pjotr G on Dec-28-2001 21:41:

I use:
Tapco 100M powered mixer
Roland MC-307
Roland TR-606 (not in this song)
E-mu ESI-4000 turbo
Yahama DX-7 (as controller)
Yamaha PSR 630 (not in this song
Pentium 90 with cakewalk

Those Cosmic Gate type hihats comes from my MC-307. But you can do it with anything that has open and closed hihats. The trick is to use either a lot of shuffle (about 70%) or sixteenth triplets (which is what I did). Don't be tempted to just put an open hihat on every offbeat, also sometimes a bunch of successive closed hihats and some reasonably random open ones. Leave some 16ths empty. If you are in need, or don't understand me, I could make you a litil midifile with just the hihat notes for one bar :P

Yes, you have lost me. I am still trying to learn about producing, I have limited software, Music 2000 and Fruityloops. I am gonna get a jp-8000 and cubase next year, and try to learn to produce properly
Please send the sample you have confused me beyond belief, I understand what you say until the 3rd sentence, is there an English translation

Posted by Pjotr G on Dec-29-2001 17:32:

Well a midi file won't do you much good with fruity loops (does it?)

But fruityloops has a slider for shuffle you know somewhere around those four big sliders, so turn that up about 60-70% to give you beats a "groove". Then it's a matter of placing some hihats strategically.

Unforunately, this shuffle then applies to all the channels, so if you would want to add a track (channel) without shuffle (like my 808 tom) fruityloops wouldn't let you (or does it?)

Posted by boy_luke_y2k on Dec-29-2001 17:44:

Cool

I don't actually use fruityloops hardly at all. I prefer Music 2000, you can actually see where the notes are positioned there, I don't even have a keyboard so I have to draw in the notes, the only instrument I can play well was a recorder and me dex if you class that as an instrument, I have D-lusion drum studio which is slowly but surely taking me away from shit like Music 2000 and when I get my jp8000 later this year I will be taking a full music creation course and learning to play piano, could you send me a MIDI file and also the URL to a simple prog that will open it please?

You can have the URL to my DDs in return

Posted by boy_luke_y2k on Dec-29-2001 18:14:

Cool

Ok, here's a go I made at doing this sorta percussion shit, I tried to do a cross between Marco V and Cosmic Gate, there is each area of percussion then the culmination, feel free to use my ability of drawing noted
Yes it is anti-leech, feel free to call me a dick, sorry
Rename to *.mp3

Percussion

Its 679kb, Pjotr G is this anything like what you meant?
Sorry for distracting the attention away from you song here, your input is very important, but at least the thread is near the top of the forum

Posted by Pjotr G on Dec-29-2001 19:54:

Hey that's a cool concept ya got there with those basses
anyways the hihat placement is useful for what I meant but U didn't apply shuffle (?or not enough). In your sample, every beat is divided into 4 equal pieces. Like this:

X---^---0---^---X---^---0---^---

That piece of horrible ASCII art represents two beats,
X = kick
^ = closed hihat
0 = open hihat

Now whith shuffle applied you would get this:

X----^--0----^--X----^--0----^--

As you see the kick and open hihat didn't change, but the closed hihats (the 2,4,6,8) move a little to the right, which translates to a groove. Listen to "Bjorn Svin - Man over board". There you can clearly hear this shuffle, where the beats aren't divided into 4 equal parts.

If you apply this your hihats will prolly sound more cosmic gate-ish

Hope I made anything clearer!

Well, it's a good try but I think it needs some more work.

What "melody" was everyone talking about here?
I didn't hear any melody at all.

Now, the main problem for me was that there was no good stable drum/bassline. You had some build-ups here and there, a lot of snares thrown about, and then the main line was kick-kick-kick-...

Most songs aren't written that way. They have a KICK and a SNARE, with hats in between. Also I would make the bass more interesting, I would make it "roll" or something, that makes the song much faster and more exciting. Here I think it was offbeat bass.

Posted by boy_luke_y2k on Dec-30-2001 09:55:

Cool

Pjotr G, could you please show me a diagram of how you do those cosmic g8 hats, i cant seem to get it at all no matter what i do.

i basically can either put in percussion like this
so i han have either 8 beats or 4, this is just basic i can change layout and shuffle

0-x-0-x-0-x-0-x

or

0--x--0--x--0--x--0--x

0 = kick
x = open hat

your help is greatly appreciated as ever

NICE TUNE... thats one of the best hardhouse tunes ive heard in a long time... its more goliath style music than hardhouse...

Posted by Peter Campbell on Jan-31-2002 04:31:

Pjotr G hard house is not my style but the track is well produced
and I like your use of samples.

keep up the good work

Posted by Pjotr G on Jan-31-2002 09:51:

cool better late than never

ehhh anyways I see only now that boy luke asked me something....do you still need that cosmic gate stuff?

Posted by on Feb-01-2002 13:33:

Just heared it... not really my style but everything seems to be in order, If you want, I can remix it (since i'm on a remixing roll here)

hehehe

good work.
