DJ Tiësto Explained: Grooveradio Interview Repost [Video Inside]

| Originally posted by Mattivi The tiesto interview was an interesting interview grooveradio had with tiesto. tiesto talks about his upcoming U.S. concert and also more. one part i found most interesting was that he now is using [almost] zero vinyls. he also openly admits he has been struggling with cds and that he has had problems with the mixing and admits he has trainwrecked(he used that word) more than he would like, but that he is getting better and should be mixing 'flawless' hopefully in a few more months. he says this is because he has always been such a vinyl dj and that mixing vinyls is much easier for him, but its 2005 and he is embracing the technology and that vinyls are pretty much dead. im not defending him or his mixing but this is definitly a little enlightening. alot of people on these boards give him so much shit about his mixing because they say he doesnt give a shit or he is drunk, arrogant or whatever. now it seems to be more of harder learning curve than anything. i guess time will tell, just thought the interview was very candid and insightful on the "he's a shitty mixer" debate. given that the guy has been spinning vinyl for 20+ years, it might have been a little harder for him than alot of new age djs who are more adept to todays technology. |
Mixing on CDJs is easier than mixing with vinyl. This is just a sad excuse.
He seems to be adjusting a bit slower than most of the other tried and true DJs, yet everyone will still vote him in the top 5 of any DJ poll done. Just goes to show that legacy is more important than current performance.

All trance apologists will use that argument I'm sure. Have you ever tried mixing on vinyl vs CDJ?
It doesn't matter if cdjs are easier or harder than vinyl. The fact of the matter is that dozens, hundreds, probably thousands of DJs have succesfully transitioned (pun intended) to CDs. Yet for some reason everyone cuts tijs all this slack just because "he's #1"
Nobody's saying he should be perfect at everything, we're saying its retarded to still consider him to be "the best" when he consistently fails to mix.
if hes sooo much better with vinyl, but wants the accesibility for tunes like cds he needs to quit bitching anf get FS2 or Serato Scratch.
End of Discussion.
well then he should have put more time in the learning process, not just change hardware and continue, practice first (+ he knew cds were going to take over vinyl eventually someday so he had years to practice)
haha, learning curve! it takes about 2 mins to get the hang of it. and it's easier to make corrections that aren't noticeable than with vinyl
I can cue up and beatmatch vinyl in 10-20 seconds, and it's perfect. I've been playing with Pio 1000's for that last few months and I'm nowhere near the same calibre as with decks.

ive found mixing on tt's far easier than cd.
Something about the resistance on the pitch fader on tt's, that its actually a mechanical process (to some extent) that isnt on CD decks (for the most part) is what gets me.
But its still fairly easy.
lofl what a sad excuse for the supposed #1 dj in the world.
ur tellin me he can't beat match in like 4/5 mins just cause its a cdj?? even if its close u can ride the wheel without anyone noticing ...lol common..tiesto's nothing compared to what he was nor will he ever be again.

jon jon: you can beatmatch perfectly in 10 seconds? I'd surely like to fucking see that one. Sasha took way longer than that when he played vinyl. There's no way in hell you aren't riding pitch after only having songs together for 10-20 sec.
