[PSY PROG] PsyOps vs Axolotyl - Progsimity (sample)

Link was down before so I deleted the previous thread. Hopefully it stays up a bit longer this time.

This is a short snippet of a track I've been collaborating on with Psy Ops, one of the producers over at australiens.net. Thought we'd release a sample and see what people think of it.

Dark driving progressive with very psychedelic undertones.

The file is pretty quiet at the moment since its unmastered so you might have to turn the volume up a bit.

Yo,
Nice Psy sound, the bass lead is well done, the Fx are pretty cool, but I would use more imo, the only thing I could complain is the bell, sounds out of place though.
Overall, nice Psy sample, it sounds pretty good.
Good job .
Kopi =o.

hey m8, hate to start like this, but i gotta tell ya, first the volume is too low, i dont even need to run spectrum analysis, your box isnt filled, there is looooots of room to fill those frequencies, now, in order to do that, use some reverb stereo wise, take those fx and slice em into different frequency range output, make at least 3, then add a slight delay for each cut and randomize with paning.
again i dont know how is it in FL, but in reason that what we call a creative wireing.
now, i like the touch of psychodelia you have in this tune so far, i see this as a crazy psy trance, full of fx, splashing, crazy space frog sounds and static, but you have to spend lots of hours, remember its at least a week your looking at, 5 hours a day at least what it takes to make a turn sound descent. Personally i usually go over each and every loop and my innvervoice will tell me whats sounds hot and whats not, but its different in every case and again, i am no expert in music yet been in this business for only 2 years and havent released anything fully completed yet so... good luck

Hi, youve got some really original sounds here... always positive! The vocal sample works really well, gives a dark atmosphere to the track. There could be another bassline with higher frequencies, it would be easier to hear the bass that way. Good beginning...

Cheers, Lakeus

Thanks for giving it a listen guys, good feedback! I'll definately implement all the suggestions people have mentioned.

The mixing needs a lot of work still. Havnt actually worked on this one for a while. Working with all those freaky sounds I find you need to take a break every now and agian to just get some perspective on it. Certainly planning to bring out the bass and percussion some more and I'll take the time to make sure those fx and leads are solid.

Thanks again =)

Hey Axo,
good to hear something new from you
First of all, the balancing needs improvement, the whole tune is kinda silent and some elements are a little loud compared to the rest, but that can still be fixed later on...
Anyway, this sounds good, hell yeah ... good intro... nice job with the percs. I have a strange feeling about the speed, I think that tune would rock more at 3-5 BPM less, but that might just be cause I cant stand too hectic things right now... anyway..
The style is very twisted, reminds me a little of Derango... but to get as good as these guys you need some extra crispiness in your sounds. The bits of acid in the tune are very good and there is definately a lot of atmosphere. Maybe you need another percussive FX, preferably a deeper one to fill the mid freqencies to give this the extra depth needed.

Anyway, sounds very promising! Keep it up

Then the sample of a female & a deep grunt takes the tune into psychedelic frenzy of fx. I like the 'dong' throughout the track. The tune seems dominated by the high fx. I think it is lacking mid range. It seems to be a bit cluttered; im not sure if this is because of the fast tempo. On the second listen I enjoyed the weird craziness of it all. Great samples btw. Intersting stuff mate

Xeno.
