So when u hit CTRL + ALT + Delete the Task Manager comes up then disappears? Strange indeed. And you dont have any Antivirus stuff on your computer? If you don't, I can hook you up with a cracked Norton I got. At least clean out some of the viruses if any. Also, Windows has an Anti Spyware BETA program, and it's been working well for me lately. You can go on Microsoft.com and search for it there. There are some computer guys on the boards who are more experienced. Try the antivirus software first. My only suggestion right now.

wats so good about fire fox anyway besides tapped browser
???

Posted by Shamez214 on Oct-30-2005 15:57:

Use it, and when you don't have any spyware ever again, you'll thank me. Plus, it's a million times faster than IE. And looks cooler. And there are loads of different add-ons. I can control my winamp from the browser. I have the weather for the next three days on the bottom of my browser. Plus... tabbed browsing, dude. Tabbed browsing. I don't think I could ever go back to not having it.

You should also run SpyBot S&D because those antispyware utilities aren't 100% foolproof, meaning that each of them will find pests that the other doesn't.

I normally use Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and Pest Patrol combined with SpywareBlaster, while occasionally using Microsoft's Antispyware as well as Webroot SpySweeper - just to be sure that I've gotten everything.

At this point, it sounds to me like you may actually need to run HijackThis so you can distinguish exactly what malware is running rampant in that PC.

And as far as antiviruses are concerned, I've had 2 computers become infected with viruses in the past - one was running McAfee (IMO, crapola) and the other Norton. I will never waste any money on either of those products again. Kaspersky has my business for now.

Anyway, here's a semi-enlightening article for you to read:

Yea Spybot S&D is good. I usually download my antiviruses. I could never buy a norton product. Ughgh.

Actually, up until it's last update (1.07), Firefox was riddled with holes. Also, you can always pick up pests through maliciously written javascript...

Me either, but for some reason some people seem to swear by Norton.

I go to all of the download sites, even the ones that are known to install malware. I have no problems whatsoever, and I don't limit my websurfing because of being scared of going to any particular site.

In saying that, I've also successfully tested my system with many professional security tools...

Unless you're a dedicated and seasoned hacker, you're not getting into my PC.

But have you ever had the opportunity to trash a computer on purpose?

I took a security class a few months ago where one of our projects was to see if we could get our lab computers to stop working altogether (and then fix them, of course.) I downloaded everything that I could find during that class period - CoolWebSearch, 180search Assistant, Gator, several Trojan Downloaders, the Sasser worm along with Netsky, MSBlaster, etc. The computer was definitely unresponsive with all of that crap loaded. However, I think it only took me about an hour or so to remove everything afterwards, but then I just reformatted and did a fresh Windows install anyway.

AVG antivirus is free and I've heard good things about it.
