UPDATED! - Phobos anomaly(deep version)[Dark and Deep]-By Richard Gale.....

hey guys.

here is my latest track. using elements from earlier work and taking into consideration some of the great feedback i got on my last track.- mainly with percussion..

its called Richard Gale - 'Phobos anomaly' (deep version)

very dark and deep utilising my usual pad style.

i just learned how to control soft synths using cubase so some of the sounds are more powerful than on my earlier work.

on the website @ richardgalemusic.co.uk

enjoy!

Very nice, i dunno bout that 0:45 pad, maybe make it a little cleaner? but still works well none the less

maybe a better quality file? wouldnt mind putting this on cd!

lovin' it

hey project7.

cheers for the reply. im glad you enjoyed! the pad is a bit dirty but i wanted that kinda effect. im playing around with it tonight so ill see if there are any other options i can come up with.

I'm annoyed with myself that I haven't checked your stuff before, this is fantastic mate.
So dark and deep (like you say ...and that break is excellent...the whispers are very chilling, and that rasping pad makes the atmosphere, you use some FX really well too. I can hear the atmosphere in this one a lot. I like the progression in the song too.
Some criticisms:

Perhaps you could do with another bass sound to go with the pad, something subtle to compliment it. Maybe a sort of 'hook' to go with the haunting choir pads too.

Nice name for the track too - is it anything to do with the doom/quake 3 games?
Anyway - excellent stuff.

Oh - and I want a higher quality bitrate please!

Posted by richg101 on Oct-31-2005 23:58:

hey ricky!

great to here a review from such a distiguished gent as yourself

anyways mate.... glad you enjoyed it!

as you wrote the review i just happened to be adding another layer- similar to what you suggested with the bass hook..

im not great at massive buildups but im slowly learning how to put them together. so i try and keep my trax quite progressive at the mo.

i always loved the names for the levels on doom. i think ill attempt a track about an anomaly at 'deimos' next

sorry bout bitrate check you pm's

new working link now up

Posted by Takkra on Nov-04-2005 13:59:

hell its working good lol 600kb/s!
sounds like a good mixing intro, pads sound really nice!
1:00 sounds really smooth everything youve got going on, reversed kicks are nice too you choose the kick really good for this track.
your break is beautiful.. the higher note pad has a great harmony with the lower one.. that beepbeepbeep synth with the delay @ 3:06 should be used more often its sounds awesome.. ahh im addicted to that beeper .. the buildup is good man! I think a massivestyle buildup wouldnt really fit the track, really nice and soothing outro, you did a really good job on this, really one of your better tracks, actually this one could be the best !

any more suggestions?

Posted by luminous on Nov-05-2005 02:15:

Hi mate, you`re very good at creating original atmospheric tracks, like the perc and fx you`ve done. This eqd version sounds better to me,everythings clearer.
I was expecting a prominent bassline but then you didn`t even use a hihat in london style 3,should have saw that coming
I think you`d be more accessible if you put more energy ie a bassline and hats into your tracks but then it wouldnt be your style any more which is entirely original in my book.
Good stuff
Cheers
Al

thanks for your kind words mate!

this is my most finished track i ve done and will probably work on this style more. a rmx of 'london' in this style is on the way. i try ande keep my stuff more 'bedroom' trance more than driving dancefloor stuff. its a shame because every time i add something to make my tracks more driving, eg, a bassline ontop of this one, it kind of ruins it in my eyes. now ive learned how to control soft synths it will be easier to put together a phatter track from the start.

it pleases me that my style has stuck in your mind for you to remember other tracks ive done, i apprieciate your support

Nice work!

I think you have a bit too much attack on the pad at the beginning though.
Love the percussion.
Breakdown is a bit too long though, you should add a breakbeat section maybe.
Nice little synth fx you have in the background.

This track has alot of potential i think, i would love a higher bitrate version.

Posted by richg101 on Nov-06-2005 22:10:

cheers for the comments mark.

the attack is a bit quick i agree. prob add a fade soon.

i think ill add some more elements and then the break will be more useful being long.

thanks again.

Hey rich,

I like all the fx and little sounds in the intro! great atmosphere.

I think the kick sounds a little hollow though.

It's pretty dark and mean! That bass synth is a bit loud..drowns out some of the other sounds in the mix.

I hear a soft choir in the background - sounds good, nice panning!

The breakdown is minimal and drags on a little - found myself waiting for a new element to be introduced.. maybe use more of those tasty fx from the intro?

Overall, it's chilled and I enjoyed - you've got a unique sound, pretty consistent.

Thanks for sharing!

thanks sooper

i know what you mean about the kick, im not sure why it is...

glad you liked the rest. im playing around with adding little bits to the break and re-levelling everything so stuff stands out more.

thanks for your advise and feedback

ve both have ze same vebpage makaz ya... freewebs -w00t. tho i don't pay for my subscription:::
the track is ok, agree with soop on the long bass notes(bit dominating)... i think its a bit repetitive even for trance and im expecting something more.... overall not a bad track just needs more elements of build and i recomend some kind of modulation of the harmony pad (freq/fm/ give it something that keeps things interesting)

Posted by Motion Twelve on Nov-14-2005 07:32:

very nice chillin track, a bit on the darker side

the break might be too long for my liking, but i know in this style you can't rush things.

great use of interesting fx. they really spice up the track.
it would be cool if you could add somehow some driving force to it but that would probably have to be a new mix.
i like the dark pads. they fit nicely with the song.
also, for some reason i did not feel a climax. something to give this track more signature. hmm, hard to explain

overall great work m8.
the track really takes you into a different dimension. keep it up!

Hey Richg101,

No idea if this track is the same as the one from the polll or how much it has been adjusted since then. You keep flooding the forum with more tracks at the same time, we just can not keep up with you Ease up on use will ya hahaha

I am going to review this track as the track I heard in the poll and basically it is a very simple review:

- Melody/atmosphere : brilliant
- Percussionwise : WORK ON IT MATE

You miss the chance of having an excellent track because the percussion is not driving enough. The kick is poor and I would suggest that you have a hihat going all the time during build up. Add a nice deep clap after each kick. Add a good hihatriff and pan it. Stuff like that. Just listen a lot to how M.I.K.E does his percussions mate.

Also the break is a tad bit long. If you want to be played on a dancefloor you need to make the track a bit more crowd friendly

Cheers and keep it up mate!

thanks for replies nomen and motion..

this track is the same one as on the poll. but the poll one has been equed/loudness maximised and remixed down at different volumes.

percs need work i know as in all my tracks!

melody wise i have tried adding stuff but have found i prefer it as a minimal piece. as with percussion etc. but i know the kick needs a lot more 'kick'.. and the track needs a lot more drive from claps etc- ill have a play around but i dont have any sample cd's to really find any killer kicks/claps...

also i think ill shorten the break a bit. or add something to it to warrant the length.

im glad you enjoyed the atmosphere nomen and the fx motion. i think i am on the right path melody wise but i need to use a killer beat to make it more driving..

thanks for both of your time and effort in reviewing my track.
