new to techno

hi, new to forum. new to techno/eletronic music really. very very vaguely understand differences between trance, house, dance, techno, etc. with that said, i was hoping you could give me some suggestions of good music to listen to. favorite song of the moment is Motorcycle "As the rush comes". also listen to other more "classic" songs like ayla, better off alone, sandstorm and other songs i picked up at clubs. i'm kind of getting the idea that i like the songs with some singing, but not the ones that have 90 sec of the same repetitive drum machine beats with no dynamic changes. as long as its very dynamic and not 28 min long, chances are i'll probably like it. any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thanks again.

If you go and buy Godskitchen Classics and Gatecrasher classics you'll find a load of classics that will cater what you're looking for, but i STRONGLY suggest you diversify and listen to more of 'the ones that have 90 sec of the same repetitive drum machine beats with no dynamic changes'.

I'd start by tuning into some edm-internet-radios like http://www.di.fm and http://www.etn.fm - There you'll be able to listen to songs and judge by yourself if you want to buy them later.

And topic is kind of misleading, what you mentioned is not techno, but thats a common misinterpretation

vocal trance is always a good start for EDM newbies.

Yep.

Started off the same - I couldn't stand more than 30 second-long intros and it all had to be melodic with vocals and everything. I'd say the more 'repetitive' stuff is really an aquired taste. Give or take a few years, you'll be craving for it.

As for now, I'd reccomend you listen to some Armin van Buuren sets.

Don't worry mate.... with a little bit of tough love, and numerous beatings... TA will have u fixed up, and as l337 as the rest of us.

I strongly suggest u listen to live sets...

u c.. the reason why the music is so repetitive, is to help the DJ mix 2 tracks up. So if u listen to music from live sets (mixed up by DJs)... u'll enjoy it thoroughly....

Try Downloading some of the stuff on TA.

Yah... it takes a while to get used to the repetition, but it's the same thing important to get u into a trance ;-).

And in turn, TA could use some fixing up by the Discogs crowd.
