Elude - Purgatory (Yarune Remix) www

Hello,

I noticed I never posted this here. It's my first 100% Cubase track (Cloudland was first but that was half Fruity still), made a few months ago. I worked it through just a bit. Some elements I would do different now, but 'I can't be arsed' to redo the whole track.

If you're browsing this forum longer may know the original, it's a 'TA classic'. Can be found in TA Unite 3. If you want the full, I don't know, just ask or so. Dunno if it's cool cause the original is not released (yet).

Enough talk, grab it here:

Please leave comments, thx!

although i ve been mainly into prog recently...

a nice full sounding track with a nice drive from those drums.

its a bit textbook, but very pro sounding.

break is quite enjoyable...

overall the melody doesnt quite do it for me cos its a bit obvious in synth selection and overall composition.

maybe make parts a bit more minimal so the main fuller bits have more of an impact?

a well made piece. but doesnt have that 'wow' factor for a uplifting trance track...

Hi Yarune! Always enjoyed your tunes so I thought I'd give this one a listen.

Nice kick! That PWM-ish lead sounds just a tad bit too loud, could try cutting the lower frequencies a little more.. Bass could be a little fatter too! Everything's flowing along nicely otherwise. Breakdown sounds nice, but perhaps just a tad bit empty; and the climax could be a little more explosive too. The saw lead sounds very V-Station.. I don't know what it is but there's something that I don't like about it. :/ Try playing around with it!

Sorry if I sound a little harsh, don't mean to. The track is overall very nice and driving, mix is pretty tight too. I'm sure this will be awesome once you tweak it some more! Good luck!

No review's great, thanks! i'm looking for these kind of reviews. It's just the track that's old, learned so much since, i just dont feel like chaning al the synths in this one.

Only the bass is V-station, saw you mean is Korg polysix, sound is not the best I agree.

Thanks guys!!

Nice melodies in this one.
Melody wise this really kicks ass, it has a very evolving sound, very good on the ears and has lots of variation.

I don't know if this been mastered yet though, sounds a tad boxed, so I guess thats the thing that is missing now, proper eq:ing and mastering.

Good melodic synth piece

I noticed a small conflict in it btw, at 4:39 you have a minor and major chord at the same time.

Melody is why I remixed it, it's just great stuff from the original.

Mastering is done by myself, but I'm no sound engineer so that has for sure room for improvement. With eq-ing I've had some problems with the two lead synths and the gated strings. Do you have any tips how I could improve the way they are eq'ed....?

It's a bit odd yes at 4:38-.. I'll have a look to it next time I edit the track (dunno if that's gonna happen tho).

Thanks Drik.

Anyone else maybe?

Hey Jay,

There's this hollow sounded synth in the background.. it's fucking cool! I love it.

Not sure if I like the synth for the main lead yet.. I need a few more listens. Right now it reminds me of early Perpetuous Dreamer stuff...

percs are top notch as always!

Tons of energy when you come out of the breakdown - that was well done.

I never heard the original but I enjoyed your remix - thanks for sharing,
Trev

Bring in that main melody in the first opening part a bit more craftily and it won't seem so out of place.

Good bridge and build.

Nice work.

Nice Remix Yarune

I like the Echo Feeling to give to the melody, Sounds very nice Overall =)

starts right off the bat... the main synth up till the break is sounding a bit odd but ok. the main melody i could see coming and its alright, but i think you have better melodies than this on your own productions. the percussive elements sound a bit muddier than your latest stuff too- shows how you really progressed because now your tracks seem soo clean and crisp with the percs. great job nevertheless, still sounds good overall.

Hey JayM,

Listened to this track , it is good to hear how you have progressed since this one. The build up is quite nice especially when the build up synth goes up (very nice touch). Reaching the break with that little breakbeat kick pattern is also excellent.

However overall the track is very empty especially percussionwise (a a good hihatriff would already make it sound more energetic). The leadsound and melody are not the best ones either (the notation is quite nice though).

A better kick would have done this track a lot of good as well, it thumps mainly in the low ends and does not really carry the track (volume could have been upped a bit as well)

Last but not least I think the track lacks in clarity (masteringwise). I think it could have been eq'ed better but that again is personal taste. I think you like tracks more with a low end and bass side instead of a clear sounding track.

Overall judging from your more recent tracks you have grown quite a bit so it is nice to hear where you come from

Cheers,

Nomen Nescio
