-- QuickTime ****ed up my MPEG associations

Dunno QuickTime ****ed up my MPEG associations

PLEASE help me

I installed QuickTime (that was a big mistake), then uninstalled it, but the shit left some keys in the Registry.

Now, when I try to download an MPEG or MP2 file, I get the error "QuickTime not available, do you want to install it."

I even made sure in Explorer (the File Types tab) that MPEG and MP2 files are associated with the Media Player, not QuickTime. But it still tries to load QuickTime.

Can someone help me?> I need Media Player to play all MPEGs and MP2s...

BTW, I even installed Netscape, but Netscape also tries to load QT, which leads me to believe they're both reading from some Registry key.....

just go to run, msconfig, startup and disabled something like qttack.exe or something. it should stop it from loading up

right-click on the file and click "open with." then choose your program and click "always use the selected program to open this type of file." maybe that will work

1. Go to Start and choose Run
2. Expand "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT"
3. Expand ".mpeg"
4. Expand "Open With"
5. Erase the folder labeled Quicktime

Try going to windows explorer, then tools > folder options > file types. Scroll down the list and find the formats you're looking for, then delete them completely. This will make these kinds of files unknown to the system. The next time you double-click one of them, windows will ask you which program you want to use to open them. Find your prefered program, then make sure the 'always use this program to open this type of file' checkbox has been checked.

install quicktime alternative next time.

I use quicktime daily so not having QT installed is not an option for me

Good luck with your problem

Uninstall Quicktime, and install this:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download..._Codec_Pack.htm

edit: don't even bother with Quicktime Alternative

Before you fuck around with the registry, I suggest you do this. Install Quicktime, Then go into the Control Panel and click on the Quicktime Icon, It will go into the Quicktime's settings, Click on the File Types tab and uncheck the stuff you don't want it playing, Mainly uncheck AVI as well as MPEG. Once you do that, It will fix your associations.

There is no "Quicktime" folder there!! There was iTunes and Media Player entries (not folders). I deleted the iTunes entry. It didn't help, it still tries to load QT...

@ Infinity HIGH is that a separate player?

i aslready did that.

I did "Open With" ... doesn't work in IE.. cos when I left-click on an MPG, it still gives me that "Quicktime is not installed" message...

AND, I also installed the codecs, didn;t help either..
