Its tough with all these tracks, but the genre/style changes every 4-5 tracks, so its not that all over the place.

Nico worst work..

he played 13 hours this past weekend at space and this was not dropped once...

Hey Vlad whatever happened to your winning non live mix? i'd love to hear it.

Posted by Greedy on Nov-11-2005 18:46:

pretty decent mix vlad.

Yea, you switched up the genres a few times in there but thats good for me cuz i dont like electro. Mixing was overall clean but you should try being a little bolder to really pump up the mix. It just sounds a lil like you were just laying down tracks, maybe you were so i dunno.

For the number of songs you used, this is a real short mix and i liked it near the end.

Is it a good thing that theres alot of tracks? What do you mean by bolder? Do you mean bolder in the transitions?

Posted by Greedy on Nov-11-2005 19:15:

yea bolder in the transitions.

yes, but it IS all over the place...granted going through 18 tracks like this keeps the energy up which is great, but you have no definitive sound...you basically said "oh this track is cool, so ill include it"...so again, the mix is ok, but nothing memorable...but keep it up, vlad, keep practicing (and i mean that with all sincerity)...

I wasnt going for a definite sound, and I was going with the "oh this track is cool". The record collection is still rather small, so Im just playing what I get and like.

if you werent going for a difinitive sound, why name your mixes as if you are?? why post them online?? why are you checking this thread every ten seconds and quoting everybody's replies like youre looking for feedback??

you went for best available track and threw them all together...youre basically saying "hey guys, look at me!! i dj and these are the records i bought...arent i cool??" why do this if youre not putting in any effort to actually make a true mix?? was this simply an exercise in your mixing?? if that's so, again, why name this list of songs?? why didnt you say in the beginning of the thread that said you were looking for feedback on your mixing and nothing more??

whats the purpose of this exercise, vlad??

I dont aim for a difinitive sound because I like so many different genre's of house, and thus I implement them in my mixes. Trust me, it took alot of effort to put this mix together, Ive been tossing around tracks and transitions for 3 or so weeks to find something that I liked - its not easy to work in 18 tracks that are different styles and still make it sound good. And when Im done making a mix, Im already working on a new mix with tracks that didnt make it into the mix before it.

The purpose was for the audience to listen to the mix, critique it and as well, learn of some new house tracks out there.

I love all genres of house too...that doesnt mean theyre meant to be all put together in one mix...of course its not easy, it's not supposed to be done because listen to how it sounds...you had to speed everything up to make it all sound coherent...stick to more of true progression of one sound, merely one sound (because that's how a DJ is defined), and just maybe your mixes will improve...putting all these genres into one mix makes you look like a bastardized louie devito...
