[progressive trance] Hydro - White Widow **sample clip**

Hey wuts up everyone,

Haven't been around here in a while, but this our follow up to Hydro - Morning Haze. We are really liking the sounds and melodies here. Its not yet complete though. We are still missing sound effect sweeps, and we haven't yet spiced up the breakbeats and builds. We're also thinking of changing up the bassline for the 2nd half of the song. All of that is still in the works though, we're hoping to get this done in another week or so. Let us know what you guys think about the melodies and the structure of the set.

here's a link:

Let us know what you think. Thanks. =)

Re: [progressive trance] Hydro - White Widow **sample clip**

Awesome, definitely something that would be great to smoke and listen to. Nice job.. my only complaint is the kickdrum.

Posted by The Drow on Nov-13-2005 13:15:

Good intro.
I'd make the silent part a bit longer and fade the drums with a filter.
I like the sines and pads. They give great atmosphere to the track.
Nice sweep.
I like the bassline and the choir thingy that comes in.
I don't think that the ohihat should be that long. Maybe it is nice.
I donnu.
I like the conga it's nice.
Maybe add a sharper one in the front that will follow the bassline.
Nice percy riff.

I like the vocals really much.
Cool fluffy thingy.
I like what you did with the sines @ 4:00.
The delay on the vocals is omg.
But I can't understand the words.
OMG Great lead (sines).
Great lead again.
I just expected to have a breakbeat there.
It fits so well. Leave it as it is.
Add a havier bassy string (drone).

Imo you should end it with "Look" with a really long panning delay. Make it loud.

I just thought about this now but in the break, before the breakbeat and while it's on add some light strings. It will be like DAOMG

This is the first track ever (as far as I remember) that I give 10/10 to. It is perfect without my comments but my comments imo can give the track a special thing in my heart.

Two things:
1) Can I remix?
2) Wanna collab?

PM me,
Omer.

Hey!

A song by weed about weed... I like it before I even start listening!

Awesome intro.. the minimal percs work well, they allow plenty of room to hear all the tasty sounds floating around.

That's a funky bass, though a little low-end boost would be nice.

I like the hi-hats after the first break.. they give the song a little more of a groove.

The songs pretty good - I get distortion on some of the layers though.

Very chilled and fine work,
Trev

hey guys... thanks for the comments

this is definitely a lil longer than most sample clips nils... but i figured all you listeners could appreciate the track a little more with a longer clip.

glenns... i got your pm, i would be able to get you a full version once the track is complete. we're gonna be looking at some labels though.. so of course... no sharing, only for spinning.

shibby, i believe one of my friends who listened to my track also commented on the kick drum. a lil bit too trancy and punchy perhaps? maybe we should go for a warmer kick sound.

drow, thanks for such a long and in depth review. we'll think about making the intro a bit longer, but for now, it'll probably stay the same. as for the breakbeat section, we're just thinking of switching up the pattern a bit more, if you notice its just the same pattern looped every 4 or 8 bars. the words in the break are actually taken from an old enigma track mea culpa. we're not exactly sure about the whole legal issue of using those samples (we did own the vinyl from which it was sampled) but i think they say, "turn off the lights, take a deep breath, and relax". as for the break and leading out of it, we still do need to add strings or pads and bunch more sweeps. and also that guitarish sounding plucking thing in the break, we're gonna keep working with that a bit. also, if you'd like to remix, i can send you the midi info after we complete the song. i don't quite have time to do a collab though, because school has already been taking out so much of my time.

hey sooper, the bass does need to be a tad bit thicker, and we're also getting a bit of clipping as well. we haven't really gone through the track to do a mixdown/mastering yet, so hopefully it'll sound much cleaner after we get that done. also, who said this track was weed related!! j/kk

thanks again for all the comments

This is really really nice. Like everyone else has already said, gorgeous chilled prog trance. I especially like the whispy and broken vox, haunting for sure! Then the spoken vox during the break works well with the overall theme of the track.

The only thing I could pick at, and it's being quite niggly is the perc is a little generic with that 909 sound, especially in the hi-hat and the crashes sound a little dry, could do with some extra reverb maybe.

All in all great stuff, one of the first tunes ive reviewed off here, have to say the standard is high and i'm well impressed.

liking this.... bass stands out a bit too much... there's no midbass or anything to complement it? kick is a bit too weak, you need something more driving.

Atmospheric elements are good. Vocal elements and the orchestral elements are great!

@ 5 mins, this track really picks up.... this breakdown comes in faaaaarr too late (unless you're trying to make like a 12 minute song.) breakbeats are nice but the weakness of the kick is really prevalent here. also the break patterns can be improved, the double kick going into the 3rd bar of the breakbeat loop doesn't sit right in a progressive track. also watch the length of your breakdown.... it's like 2.5 minutes long! take out the vocals, they take away from the nice melody you have going in the breakdown.

like i said before, atmosphere built in this track is great... gives it a real melancholy feel to it. good work.

yay post number 500

+1 I could not have reviewed this any better Also the vocals seem a tad too loud during the beginning of the track when not everything is in place yet. I liked the track but it should definately be at least 1,5 minutes shorter (1 min in the build up at least 30 sec in the breakdown)

Cheers mate!

A track that the drow likes - have to check it out !

Feel as if the track should kick in @ around 1:30, after the intro sweeps (Don't like the part around 1:00 in particular)

This track has vocal potential. Check if you can find a nice female singer, after adding the Fx & stuff i think this could be something.

Here in albany there's like 40 clubs...most are hip hop, but some have 3 floors

Posted by trancintaiwan on Nov-17-2005 17:29:

hey, thanks for more responses.

abhora, we'll look into the percussion. i can see how everyone is saying its on the weak side and sorta needs some stronger hits.

also the buildup is a tad bit long... and so is the breakdown. our previous track morning haze sorta had this problem as well. we had given it to armin and markus and they loved it, but they just felt like everything was too long and stretched out. i guess we need to figure out a way to shorten our tracks without rushing anything. we'll definitely be looking into all of your comments and making changes where we feel necessary.

oh yea, and living in nyc doesn't exactly make it any easier.... probably harder i'd say. there are so many well-known dj's and producers that perform here. unless if you are already well known or if you have connects, it is so hard to find gigs.

at least you have an opportunity... i'm not exactly from the boonies (DC) but it's still hard to get your name out in a crowd that will only move to hip hop (and the occasional house). NYC got soooo much diversity when it comes to all that. I think LA and San Fran would be pretty diverse as well.

Think about the producers in the midwest... i'm sure it's hard to get exposure there

didn't mean to go so offtopic, good luck polishing off the song

yea, i guess that is true. midwest must be really hard..

Downloading now, I'll listen as soon as i get back from work.

a very impressive tune i must say. beautiful atmosphere and very chill vibe.

the kick is definitely too thin and i would desceibe the bass as too "narrow". try something that takes up a bigger frequency chunk. the open hat also stands out a bit too much to me. the strings with that filtered synth are beautiful, but the vocals do more to take away from that mood than they do to enhance it. as professor ethereal mentioned, that double kick rushes what is otherwise a very fluid and mellow track.

in all honesty i didn't notice a problem with the length. it seemed to go by very fast, which doesnt usually happen when i'm trying to critique something.

beautiful work man, i'd love to see where this one ends up.

and regarding the midwest, it's not as bad as people think. i still manage to play out several times a month at fairly decent sized venues. i think the dj to casual listener ratio is a lot higher here though, everyone is a dj it seems.

I couldn't agree more.
I'd even want an extended version.

First and foremost, whatever happened to "Hydro - Morning Haze?"

Seriously I've still got that on my old computer, it's absolutely brilliant.

It'd be a tragedy if that wasn't released!

EDIT:

Your song starts off beautifully, however at the 55sec mark, I think you shouldn't cease the 'drums' or the 'poings' because that's what makes the start so good. Also, at 1:04 it really feels like an anticlimax... maybe some more FX?

Nice splicing of the vocals aswell... sounds very good. Bass seems a little repetitive also after a while.

Definately still think Morning Haze was your best work

Hope this goes well for you

Posted by trancintaiwan on Nov-20-2005 23:37:

tyler and tholius.. thx for the comments

we'll definitely look into making the bass fatter and the kick a bit stronger...

also... since there seems to be so many comments about the percussion, we'll be considering changes with that.

i was also somewhat content with the length of the track... except maybe when it reaches the first break at 3:45.. that it should just continue with the break rather then going back into the kick again. overall we're trying to keep the buildup nice and even ... we were not exactly looking to make the next anthem with a short buildup and a catchy hook aka. waveforce or something along those lines. we're hoping that people not only like the melodies, our production quality, and creativity. dunno if we're there yet but hopefully we're getting close.

and tholius thx for ur comments about morning haze. i really love that song also, but unfortunately every label i sent that out to didn't seem to enjoy it as much. we are thinking of doing a rework of that once again with a chunkier bass and shorter parts and then sending it out with this track. hopefully it'll be better received the 2nd time around.
