New Order-Blue Monday [unknown remix]

sample

Ewan Pearson vs. M.A.N.D.Y.-No Stoppin Love

no sample, sorry...

EDITTED:

the original mix of blue monday is in D minor. [edit: didnt see the sample under blue monday - gimme a sec - im on 56k.]

ok its still in D minor - bass goes D, F, C along a D minor scale. so if you wanted to mix it with keylock on, it will go into other tunes with the bassline playing in D.

dunno about the second - never heard it. no sample - no banannas.

Why Would D sound better with kelock on, and not in C or F?

The individual notes are in the scale of C thus youll get a good movment going to the 3rd 5th or 7th (e g and b) Hope that helps a bit

EDIT: no its because i suck and got it wrong.

it is not in D major. reason?

a D major scale goes: D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D

which of course is not how the bassline progresses.

its D minor because all minor scales in D step like:

step, half step, step, step, half step, step, step

note that in music theory with regards to scales - EVERYTHING is in relation to the root note. so in a scale from the root of D, the notes are different. this is partly how you figure out scales.

you can verify this by finding a piano VST and tinkling a few keys in a sequencer like the fl studio demo or something. its free.

play a D note as the song is playing and you have perfect consonance (sounds exactly 'right'). which im assuming is what you want in your mix.

its definitely not D minor (either natural or harmonic) because all minor scales in D step from D to Eb.

What do you mean about Eb? A Dminor harmonic scale goes D, E, F, G, A, Bb, C#, D.

just because most of the bassline is spent in D does not mean that the track is in key of D.

Of course not - but as far as I'm concerned, the track is in Dminor.

its in C major.

It's in a minor key

you can verify this by counting up notes in the scale and you realise all the notes are whole tones (a C major scale is easy to remember because it is C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C).

How does that verify anything? In any case, that's not a whole tone scale - it's a major scale (the intervals between E-F and B-C are semitones).

keep playing a C note and you will get mild consonance except where the bass drops down to C. play a D note as the song is playing and you have perfect consonance. which im assuming is what you want in your mix.

i think the music theory aspect of it needs clarifying since it confuses alot of people but it shouldnt. if its explained properly. it makes perfect sense.

so if theres anythign you are shakey about. just ask.

I don't understand quite how you came to the conclusion that the track is in C major at all. I have listened to both the tracks and keyed them using a digital piano. They are both in D minor.

erf. i counted up from D wrong. you are right.

i know the difference between E/F and B/C are semi tones. but my brain just switched off when i counted up from D in minor key.

harmonic minor goes: step, half step, step, step, half step, step + half step, half step.

i just went D to Eb without thinking.

ill edit my post so its correct.
