Eddie Guerrero Passes Away At Age 38

I am very saddened to announce that Eddie Guerrero has passed away. The former WWE Champion was only 38 years old.

Eddie was scheduled to wrestle the injured World Heavyweight Champion Batista and Randy Orton in a triple threat match for the title at tonight�s SmackDown! tapings. The match was put together as a way to take the title off Batista, who will be having surgery very soon. Guererro was heavily favored to win the title this evening.

We offer our condolences to the Guererro family and anybody who knew the brilliant young performer.

Eddie Guerrero had breakfast this morning with Chavo Guerrero and at least one other wrestler, then returned to his hotel room. When he didn't come out of his room in the expected amount of time, friends went looking for him and found him dead.

Guerrero has a long history of battling pain pill addiction, a struggle that was chronicled in a UPN special last year which is now on DVD. There is no firm confirmation, though, at this time, that his death was related to his lifelong battle.

Anyone who watched WCW ECW or WWE/F Over the last few years would know this guy put his body on the line 3 or 4 times a week doing things that most of us wouldn't be able to do, At only 38 I'm personally shocked however, only watched him on smackdown friday night

seriously tho, if you don't like it, don't pull the 'its fake' thing, we all know this, and still watch (been watching it since i was about 5 years old) but that doesn't mean we're not able to pay respect to a guy who did as much for us as some musicians do for other people

ya i wasnt assuming anyone didnt know it was fake. or hoped not. either way amazed people are fans of this. to each their own i guess.. since i probably like shows that poeple think are lame

Being a professional wrestler seems to be more dangerous than being a soldier in Bagdad. Andre The Giant, Mr. Perfect, "Elizabeth", Owen Heart, Yokozuna and the list goes on. What the hell is going on there? RIP...

Oh no... I had stopped watching wrestling recently, but I defintely knew Eddie and he was a great performer in the ring.

this is sad news to hear.

he was a great entertainer on and off the ring.

i wouldn't be surprised if roids/illegal supplements/other drugs lead to his death... i remember how skinny he was back in the late 90s during the wcw/wwf feuds, and he was with wcw and the whole latino/spanish/mexican wrestling gang .. he went to wwf, and he got hurt .. was out for a good time, and then when he came back, he was huge .. i was like wtf ... he just jumped from cruiserweight to heavyweight ..

i guess you gotta do what you gotta do to stay in the business .. wrestling is a tough business .. gotta sell those bumps ..

a small commentary on the documentary of eddie guerrero aired last year .. i don't watch wrestling much, so i missed this documentary .. after reading the article, i am like wow ..

brian pillman references all the way here ... ..

if people forgot who brian pillman was, he was aka flyin' brian, former tag team partner with steve austin (stone cold) back in the day .. he was found dead in his hotel room the night of a PPV match .. they say it was a drug overdose, but i can't find the exact cause of death . i heard he shot himself russian roulette style, but that was a rumor .

Oh no. I didn't know Big Boss Man, Chris Candido and Lord Alfred Hayes died, too. Gorilla Monsoon also passed away a few years ago. That death hit me the hardest. He was my favorite commentator. The way he and Bobby Heenan used to argue always made wrestling fun to watch...and hear.

Eddie Guerrero was found in his hotel room in Minneapolis with his toothbrush in his mouth. He apparently died while brushing his teeth. At this point, the belief among WWE personnel is that Guerrero died of heart failure.

Shortly after Guerrero's body was found and removed from the room, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Dean Malenko and Chavo Guerrero visited the hotel room to say their goodbyes. WWE wrestlers and staffers were visibly shaken and emotional while leaving the hotel to go the Target Center, the site of tonight's Raw/Smackdown taping. Word from WWE sources is that the tenor of tonight's taping will be dramatically different and that the Smackdown show will need to be revised.

Guerrero's death is now the lead story on WWE.com, under the headline "Tragic Loss". The article says that WWE is "deeply saddened" by Guerrero's death, and provides no further details on his passing.

just got this. guys like Benoit, Malenko & esp chavo are going to be gutted, for one thing he's chavo's uncle, for another the other guys (and rey in the last 2 yrs) have done everything with him, you're looking at over 10 years with malenko & benoit.

When I saw him at the last Hall of Fame dinner on WWE TV, I could tell he had something, he was very skinny. He had also said, "I only wish Monsoon were here." Damn this is really sad. I grew up on this stuff.

same here, I watch it quite often if there's nothing else on but read the reports all the time to make sure i'm not missing anything.

Whatevr read on here, I'm sure Jim Ross said he still had it, and he doesn't look well at all, as you say, so skinny for a guy who was never like it.

for sure. He looks really weak imo, he made some appearances earlier this year on the ROH promotion (Which is probably the best place for real wrestling now) and with others like jim cornette (remember the guy with the tennis racket!) and Mick Foley has been selling a promotion for whom many of its stars are now with wwe, tna or tipped to end up there.

Fuck, man. I grew up watching Eddie, Chavo, Rey Mysterio, and all the other kickass cruiserweights in WCW. This definitely sucks.

I grew up watching Eddy Guerrero and he was always one of my favourite performers. I don't really watch wrestling today, but when i did, it was always funny to see Eddy in the ring

I have no idea what to say. Eddie was just too damn awesome and he one of the only reasons why I watched Smackdown.


Just tremendous in every way. Seriously my favourite moment in wrestling ever.
